ok, so i really want to take apart my old computer.......its outdated.....and i have a new much much better one.

i want to take it apart and check out the insides.....ram, mobo, PSU, gpu (its illegal to own...well to play games on it!), and yea the rest.

the only thing holiding me back is Static......i know you shouldnt upgrade and take apart your pc...when on carpet or when wearing socks.

we are meant to be 'grounded' with th pc right?.....so am i meant to be touching some sort of metal all the time ? im not buying those static gloves just so i can muck around with this old pc.

but yea just wanted to know how i should do it ? any points or critcism accepted

please give me info...im a bit of a noob

Just touch metal, like the side of the case or PSU, before you touch any of the system components. That way you'll discharge any static electricity you have inside your body.

Best to be on the safe side though. Reelguy is right. touch some unpainted metal, and you'll be good. Just don't shuffle you feet excessively if you are wearing socks...

pffft, i was worried too, then i just took the stupid strap off and nothing ever happened. Eventually my HDD would act up and i'd get psst so i'd pop it open right on the carpet :P Just touch the case and you'll be ok.
