I own the original game, is it possible to download the expansion Team Fortress 2 for free then?
Or do I need to buy the orange box?

You will need to buy Team Fortress 2, either off steam or retail.
Nice Sig by the way, Gabriel Knight owns.
i'm considering to buy this game, but the info i got about TF2 doesn't warrant a purchase. i don't like Portal and more HL2...so orange box isn't a good choice for me.....a single purchase of TF2 doesn't seem to be worth it for me too. it might be fun and pretty and all....but it lacks the tactical depth and variety of Enemy Territory ( what IGN said ). :?

Well, what I mean is, there is no reason why you can't enjoy both, right?
nah...when it comes to buying game i'm very stingy...it's not that i can't....i just don't feel like buying all those gamesin whichi might end up feeling disappointed after 6 hours. personally, i think it's a mistake that Valve doesn't release a TF2 demo. i know, they don't give a crap about my money....well then, in that case, i couldn;t care less about their game. no loss.

There was a beta for it.
TF2 is awesome, i'd buy if i were you... I like it so much I bought the orange box on 360 to play it with my friend and tf2 alone on my pc to enjoy it when my friends aren't online... (it looks definetely better on pc by the way...)
Quake wars seems good too though ( i haven't bought it yet though because of games like ut3, cod4 and crysis coming soon...) TF2 is more different with its cartoon art style... they did an awesome job with all the caracters (forget about what gamespot and ign said, tf2 is the longest appeal of the orange box imo)

The beta was only for those who preordered ;)TF2 sticks to the close quarters type of combat that the original was good for. If you long for wide open spaces and vehicle dominated comat this is not for you. But as far as offering a tactical game TF2 has it in spades. You simply must play as a team and use almost every class effectively to win. There are 9 distintcly different classes and all are essential to winning consistently.
It's easily one of the most well balanced online team based shooters I've played. No one class dominates the arena. All 9 classes can be equally effective and all will be required to win. With so many different classes it's hard to get tired of this game. The only weak spot is the small number of levels. Only 6 released with the game but I've already seen some new ones and I'm sure others will be coming.
On top of that the humor in the game is fantastic and I think plays a big part in why the community is so relaxed and fun to play with.
I notice that the spy can go camouflage, how does it really work? Is it with the help of the frequency thing in his hands?Guyper
you mean invisible?
you go invisible by pressing the right mouse button. The rest you must figure out yourself, because I already have my hands full with spies. :P
Without Spies this game would be so easy. They are the class that flips the balance when a team has an area locked down.
At any time a Spy can go invisible with the press of the right mouse button. The invisibilty only last a short time and must then be recharged for a second use but once invisible they can sneak in undetected (unless they bump into someone then the light bent around the player can be seen just slightly). While invisible they can use the zapper (weapon 2) to destroy engineer items like turrets and dispensers etc. This is key because with a heavily defended area spies and medics are the only classes that can help break an area open.
Spys can also disguise themselves as an enemy in which case they look just like an enemy player to the enemy and this allows them to sneak up and backstab for a one hit kill. Once they've killed the disguise wears off and it's usually lights out for the spy. The disguise doesn't wear off and is only broken when they attack.
Medics are essential for breaking into a heavily defended area because they and their targetcan become invulnerable for a short period of time. Usually just enough time to get a heavy in to destroy turrets and enemy players.
