I happened to be at the mall this morning, and went to the gamestore not expecting much but BAM! TF2 separate from the orange box for $20! I bought immediately and am installing now. I thought the game was so-so when it was free a few weekends ago, and I jumped on it. Awesome deal. any advice for a new player?

The orange box is only $30... You didn'tt think HL2, HL2 Episode 1, Episode 2, CS:S, and Portal were worth $10? Wow.

CS:S is not included, and neither did I. Portal was pretty lame I thought, and I just can't bring myself to play single player PC fps.

TF2 is also $20 on Steam. Plus I think you should have really gave The Orange Box a chance. I am guessing your portal impressions come from the demo? The full game is very entertaining and funny. But thats not the reason for buying OB. The Half-life series is where the real value lies and something you should experience if you love games

I rented the orange box (for xbox 360) and beat portal and didn't find it as amusing and entertaining as the rest of the world did. I used to have half life 2 but I could never play it for very long.

tf2 is a great game; easily one of my favorite games of all time! i asked this question a while back as well, and people told me to start off with the medic, which i did. and i think that's good advice. play as a medic, stick to a soldier or a heavy (or demo or pyro, if there aren't any soldiers or heavies), and observe how they play. one of the easiest maps to try first is 2fort. it has two identical buildings, and the objective is to get the enemy intelligence, which is located in the basement of the buildings. so you're either on the red team or the blue team, and you have to invade the other team's building. it's a lot of fun, and you can observe other classes and how the others play them while you're healing them. after that, you can try the soldier (if you're good at jumping/strafing/shooting) or perhaps the pyro (if you're not so good at shooting while jumping around). most of all, learn the maps - knowing where to go, where to hide, where to ambush, etc., will make your job much, much easier.

The Orange Box is quite potentially my favorite game compilation of all time. I'm a huge fan of the Half-Life series and I love Portal (and no, I didn't jump onto the bandwagon. I was looking forward to Portal since E3 2006). Team Fortress 2 is by far my favorite multiplayer game I've tried out. It's the best $40 I've ever spent.

To the guy that said "Wow"...... Did I ever say I did or didn't own any of those games? Or did you assume I already didn't? This forum is terrible.... I won HL2, and both episodes, but haven't finished EP1 or started EP2. Portal was awesome. Another problem.... I set the game up with the actual game disc in, and after I finished playing, steam said thanks for playing on the free weekend, but it now for 19.99, and on my games page it's listed as a "gift".... Will I see a problem when I try to play on monday?

Personally I found the TF2 and Portal to be the games that impress me the most out of the Orange Box, I just never was able to get into the HL2 series, without those two games in the package I wouldn't even care for the Orange Box.

I gotta agree with Wizdom, but I think that that TF2 is the real standout game (I just thought portal was good but nothing amazing or the second coming of jesusl)

You know, single player fps are awesome.. Especiall Half Life 2.

I dunno why but I just can't play them on the PC. I'd much rather be playing multiplayer. Have the same problem with STAKJER, just can't play it. Although I must say I love atmospheric games and I've heard STALKER has a good atmosphere. So I may force myself to get farther in.
