I just spend my sixth hour playing tf2 and I have to say I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Its nowhere near as fun as cod4. I even prefer cod2 multiplayer. Is this just my personal taste or have other people found it repetitive and too random?

Some of the irritations for me:

I'm sick of being stabbed in the back by invisible spies through no fault of my own.

No well equipped player is really thatfast, you alwaysfeel like you are running around in lead boots.

On the vast majority of servers there is hardly any real 'team play'.

Its quite boring... for some reason.. dunno.

Seems you're frustrated with being beaten at the game, so you call it overrated.

1. cant really disagree u with u there but u shouldn't be stabbed that often uless u stand still like snipers

2.thats really personal taste that players dont move that fast except maybe the scout the game wasn;t trying to be realistic just look at the graphics style.

3. for a majority of pubs this is true and u have to scrim to get actual team work but for someone whose just looking to have fun win or lose its not really that big of a deal.

4. i tought the game was really fun chaotic madness lots of variety with the classes the complete opposite of being a boring game.

its proably just u dont like these types of games.

Well, you can prefer whatever game you wish, but your taste is your own.

As for me, I find TF2 to be fresh in both graphics and balance.

Oh, your issues with the game:
1. Then don't stand around, with no backup, making yourself good Spy bait. Be a pyro and spray the area to find them.
2. Again, see my point about the freshness of graphics. This game deviated from the "Real-World" and made everything cartoonish.
3. Pub games, yes. Get a few friends around, learn the maps a little more (6 hours is hardly enough time to master everything), and you'll see that teamplay is a common issue in most public servers (lots of people are gung-ho).
4. Could be repetitive maps (I'm not partial to cp_granary myself). Could be constant use of one **** but no real progress is made to master it, could be trying all clas_ses, but finding no obvious preference, could be a team of knobs on your side, who aren't accepting of newer players.

Who knows? But give it more than 6 hours and find some other servers to play on out there. The game is very good if you look.

To each his own, but don't call it overrated just because you don't like it, it really is a great game.

1) Pub team play is very random, at times you get pretty good team work. Other times not so much and those can be frustrating if the other team has teamwork. ( I usually just keep switching servers til I find players I like). Howeve, for the most part I find the game entertaining as long as the games are fairly even (from experience I'd say only about 20% of games aren't well balanced).

2) Spys are fine, you are just new and need to learn how to watch for spys.

If you are bored you are probably playing it wrong or haven't played it enough to be good, I've played it for atleast 50 hours and still enjoy playing it regardless.

How is it any different than being shot in the back of your head through no fault of your own, or killed by some camper? I play as heavy so I feelthe effect of spiesmore than any other class. And it really pisses me off. But all games have stuff like that. I just take it in my stride and enjoy it all the more when I kill one of the bastards.

No well equipped player is really thatfast, you alwaysfeel like you are running around in lead boots.tcarruth

I think this is a good thing - it means players are easier to hit, which means there's a lower barrier to entry for new players. I'm a pretty decent shot, but it always drove me nuts in other online games how people could score headshots at 200 yards on moving targets. By makig it 'easier', they're levelling the playing field - which means more fun for more people.

On the vast majority of servers there is hardly any real 'team play'.tcarruth

I am yet to play on a server that isn't all about team play. Granted, I play on clan servers with some very good people, people who like playing in teams. My advice would be to find a couple servers you like, find people you like, and stick with them. The servers I play on have regulars, people who visit only those servers, and everyone knows everyone. By name and playstyle if not personally.

Its quite boring... for some reason.. dunno.

tcarruth

If you aren't enjoying it, you really shouldn't be looking for people to tell you that you're wrong. No one can tell you what you should like, or why you should like it. One thing I will suggest is that if you haven't tried all the classes - do so. Finding a class that works for you is the most important thing about TF2. I got lucky first try, with the heavy.

You get stabbed because you need to be more cautious and check people's movement to see if they look suspicious. Spy check often and you will be fine. They can't stab you when they are cloaked. Also the scout and a few of the other classes speed feel fast enough. Faster then COD 4 anyway. The game is great and many love it. What you need to do is find the class that you have the most fun with and stick with it. Whatever suits your style of gameplay.

TF2 is a highly polished title.

But but.... Just seems to lack something from the old school Quake 1 mod. Now THAT was fun.

Still a good game, well put together just I dunno, It's missing something....

The beauty of the game is in its simplicity, it's easy to get into and play. You don't have to fret so much about system requirements, you don't have to have a lot of skill or the reflexes of a 12 year old, you don't have to plan out how your going to play - you just play. IMHO there's nothing wrong with that from time to time, if you need more complexity there's obviously other choices such as you mentioned or BF2/BF2141, etc.

you have a right to your own opinion...but you make it out as if the game itself is completely over-rated. when really all this thread is about, is that you are having trouble enjoying the game.

i'd say over-rated if there were big neon signs flashing everywhere saying "you must play this game!" and "this is the game to get, cant be beaten" etc you get my drift.

the points you made are valid as being some real annoyances in the game (the spy thing) but thats just it, they are all a part of the game. i think its a great game. the spies are a pain in the arse, but they do die quite easily if you turn on them. and if everyone was able to move around really fast or sprint, there would be less full frontal carnage, which is what the devs and the fans wanted. people would just mad rush out of an area. now it has to come down to a face off.

and the teamplay comment....that is also true but it depends on your team at the time. i've played more than a few times where our team has really instinctively stuck together and its paid off. other times you do have to lone wolf a bit, but in those cases i just snipe.

so no its not overrated, not at all. you simply dont enjoy the game, thats fine. doesnt overrate it.

IT'S THE NOOBIE FRUSTRATION

i really really LOVE the game, and i am always the best on my server ... that might be the reason

but actualy... i found a server where i started to know people, i keep talking to them over the microphone and i am having more fun talking and laughing than winning matches

Team fortress 2 isnt overrated. I mostly play the capture the flag map, that is a fun and exciting trying to get the flag and get it back to your base. There are times you will get on a bad team of good team. Ive been on both of them. Being on a equally match team is much more fun. The game will end up stretching out.

Like the other people are saying, when you get better at the game it will grow on you. Going for achivements, plus the frequent updates make it fun.

Agreed. I always come back to TF2 after I played that game.

At first I though TF2 was overrated, but then I understood that it's not just run and gun. You have to plan ahead and play as a team to win. Now I LOVE the game and play it all of the time for the past couple of years.

6 hours isn't nearly enough. This game took me quite a bit of time to really start enjoying. I really mean this. Meanwhile, CoD4 is instantly enjoyable, but not for nearly as long.

it's a casual game with little depth thats why you feel its overhyped. For some people thats fun but for me it was a massive disappointment after tfc and yes the spies are ridiculously overpowered along with scouts. A watch that allows spies to cloak indefinitely? how skilless and retarded a fanbase must you have to introduce something like that.

You can understand and clock this game in a few hours, there really is very little in it, the've introduced hats, f**king hats because the gameplay is so shallow that they need to entice people with **** like that to keep people playing. Your initial reaction is right the game is a shallow pile of valve turd which follows the new valve dogma of lets suck in the cash cow that is the casual players. Whereas this may be good for them it means the game has no depth at all and gets boring extremely fast especially if you've been playing other first person shooters.

And no I dont suck at the game,I played tfc for 8 years. Ignore the fanboys your gut instinct is right, everyone I know who still plays it admits that the're only playing it cause they don't have anything better to play, you made a bad purchase move on.

Only six hours? I'm just starting to grow tired of it at 182 hours, not counting the huge amount of time I spent on the xbox version. (had 50+ hours of Engineer)

You're too accustomed to Call of Duty and expect Team Fortress 2's design to be similar in positive ways. Its a completely different FPS in terms of central game design, so you are going to dislike it, who knows if it will grow on you in time. Certainly isn't overrated though.

Meh, there's always someone on this game that'll be able to one up you at every turn.
