For people who have both versions, which community is bigger?

PC or xbox 360?

I have it for 360 right now but I'm getting a new PC in a few days so Id like to start playing on PC, but I don't want to pick it up if it's dead. Though I doubt it would be, just checking :P

Also, how is Call of Duty 4/Unreal Tourn 3 community on PC? I have neither for 360 so I would definitely prefer to buy them on PC.

And just while they're all on the table... out of those three, which would you recommend I get first? What about Battlefield 2142?

far from dead.

cod4 is also far from dead.

i hear ut3 is close to dead as dead can be. but i've never bothered to check.

of the three, tf2 is a lap and a half ahead of the other two.

The PC TF2 community is huge - I don't know exact figures, and I'm sure some other game communities are bigger, but TF2's community is plenty big enough.

Valve regularly updates the game, and has recently started major updates to the cIasses as well as introducing new maps and game modes. Valve offers a free weekend of play with every major update, so there's fresh blood being regularly injected into the community.

The console version of TF2 is an utter joke compared with the PC version. In the PC version, you'll find 16 v 16 (which is how the game was supposed to be played) games, you'll find a vibrant modding and mapmaking community and you'll find regular updates from Valve.

The PC version of Team Fortress 2 is Team Fortress 2.

Heh, no. Of course not!

By free weekend I mean they give the entire game away to people who down't own it. They can download the game through Steam and play it for a weekend without having bought it. Sort of like a demo, only they get the entire game - but just for the weekend.

When the weekend is up, the game is locked in their Steam account until they buy it, or until the next free weekend. You just missed a free weekend a week or two back. Next one might be around six weeks off, at a guess.

Ah that's awesome!

So about Steam... is it better to purchase games from steam or from the store? Is having a steam account a requirement to play online? CAn people who bought the game in the store play with people who bought it off steam? Sorry, I'm kind of new to the PC gaming scene, I just play MMOs, but now I"m getting a decent computer so I'd like to start gaming more on here :)

Thanks for the answers :)

if you bought a store copy of TF2 you would still need to register on steam to play... you can buy from either, i would go with store copy simply becuase my internet would DIE trying to download a game off of steam

So since Call of Duty 4 is available on Steam, would I have to be registered for that as well?

Are there any PC games where my Xbox Live screename carries over?

I'd like to keep them consolidated if possible.

no you can play call of duty 4 without steam. oh and to answer your previous question, call of duty 4 and the team fortress 2 community for PC are much, MUCH bigger than the 360 community. cod4 is currently the second most played game according to xfire(go to xfire.com to check the list) and team fortress 2 also has a very active community. for call of duty 4 i once found about 20,000 servers and for team fortress 2 i reached 1,000 once.

fyi, the pc online community seems to be the most dominant at all games. i still find PLENTY of servers running for cs 1.6 and dod :)

Cool thats good to hear, fighter :)

so, "Games for Windows".. Ill be able to use my xbox live account to play online, correct?

but non games for windows, to play online, I will need to make an account with the respective company hosting the servers for that game?

I guess thats one thing I liked about Xbox live.. you use your same username for all the games haha. but dude keyboard and mouse alone should make up for that 10x over.

I'm thinking about selling my xbox 360 copies of Bioshock, Mass Effect, Orange Box, Gears of War and buying them again on PC. Well atleast maybe Orange Box and Bioshock, as they're only 20-30 bucks now.

Oh also, if I'm playing games for windows with my xbox live account, will achievments I get on PC transfer over when I sign onto my xbox?

thanks :)

hi, at the start of this conversation you mentioned UT3, but no one has really elaborated on it. i just have the demo(for like 2 months now) but i play it evryday. the games appearence is kind of big and cartoony, but Epic tried to make it more manly by adding alot of blood and gut, but it makes for a pretty addicting game, if you add in the fun weapons.

concerning the online community there aren't that many ppl playing it, but i think it's for the better because you get to know each other and who's who by their game playstyle. get it for the pc, because it's much cheapert then the 360 version.

i'm not saying that the Orange box is bad, and that you shouldn't get it, but Ut3 is also good, with a bit more of a low key rep.
