I am not one for exaggeration or hyperbole. So understand that I am utterly sober when I say that Team Fortress 2 is the single greatest thing on the planet. Imagine a vagina that makes ice cream when it's not in use. That's almost half as good as Team Fortress 2.
You just gotta buy it.

LOLOLOL
Anyway, in short: BUY THIS GAME!
It is really really fun!
I just don't understand what there is to like about this game. With the exception of Portal the orange box was 1990's game play in 2004 graphics. I'd describe it all as tepid. Team fortress 2? - I really can't get into it, I know this is going to piss some people off but it feels like it was made for kids. I much prefer COD4 and COH online...
I put in like 30 hours into this game, came top a few times and was like "how is this less fun than COD2??!!"
What can I say, it actually feels like you are running around in a cartoon... I'm sorry but that, for some people like me, is just NOT emersive whatsoever. An I like just about everything multiplayer!!

What about it makes you think it's for kids? Is it the visual style? Or the humour in general? That would be pretty closedminded of you.
TF2 is an extremely tactical, team based game where extremely diverse and distinct classes have to cooperate to succeed. It may seem simple on the surface, but it's not the kind of game I'd give to kids. Not to play in serious, competitive games, anyway.

What humour? Its the slow nature of it that I find annoying. I feel like I'm being constrained all the time. Maybe I'm just too used to COD and CSS. I'm not so sure about tactical either. Most of the time if you are on a balanced team you win, if there is too many of one class you lose. I'm sorry but thats more like luck than tactics. Also I found the general standard of play to be surprisingly bad. If you want a challenge I think COD4 is much better. Not trying to be provocative - this is really my opinion, dead honest.
sorry about the massive edit BTW...
I'd say its the most fun fps I've played in a long long time. One poster was mentioning about COD4 and their preference for it. I have both, and I find myself playing TF2 more. COD4 is more "hardcore" (if that is a fair assessment). But TF2 can be dead serious and hardcore in play as well, or you can have a great time just playing on a pub server. Awesome visuals and all round fun, quite balanced and challenging in a clan/scrim setting. Definitely worth the money IMO
I like TF2, and I like COD4 - each game serves its own purpose and does it quite well. I would recommend TF2 just on the stand alone on how easy it is to get into the game, and the level of replayability. The fact that there are alot of custom maps out there already really brings the value up for TF2.
The only thing that bothers me about TF2 is the type of people it does tend to attract, and you have a tendency to run into alot of smack talkers or immature admins / players.
I am look forward to UT3 catching up.
TF2 is a great game its funny at first but you grow out of it.
30hours game play give or take and i am still not bored of it tho i only play 2-3 maps a day. First time i played it lasted till midnight.
In my opinion, it's easily one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played. I've been playing it since the pre-order beta before release, and I still play it almost every night. Great action, and I enjoy playing every class. I also can't play one game without having at least a few good laughs.
