I just put together a new PC and have been testing it out for the past day.
I was wonder if these temps on the CPU are fine.
.
Before I post the screenshot here are my specs.
.
Intel i5 2500k 4.4ghz
8 gigs of DDR3 1600mhz RAM
ASUS GTX 570 Direct CU ii (OCed to 900mhz core clock)
2x 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 hard drive (RAID 0)
Noctua NH-D14 CPU heatsink
Asrock P67 Pro3 B3 Motherboard
.
.
.
I picked the Noctua heatsink because I heard it was one of the best air cooling heatsinks on the market.
But the temps seem rather high for that title.
.
Also I was wondering if the temp different on core 1 being much higher than the other cores matters.
.
Here is the screenshot.
I used Core Temp and CPU ID to monitor temps.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

And before anyone mentions cable management I think the inside of my case has good airflow.

Seems fine to me if the second gen i7s are similar temp wise to the first gen.

If that's the case then it looks like you're shaving about 10C off your temps if you were using a stock heatsink.

If your memory is running at 1600 mhz then the extra voltage needed will kick up your temps 5C+ too.

I have a 950 with a stock heatsink, and with memory running at 1066mhz it tops out in the mid 70's, with memory at 1600mhz it's mid 80's.

Well the voltage on my RAM is 1.5.

Also Temps went down slightly when my air conditioner kicked in.
So maybe my room was a little hot.

The CPU temps seems a little high to be honest, ur not even doing a very high OC either.

I think you should try refit the noctua, you should see lower themps than that.

Edit: well your doing a high OC, I missread the clocks, well temps in the higher 60's are not the cause for concern althou I wouldn't want it to be any higher.

What voltage is your qpi/dram core?

Also your temps will scale linearly with room temp.

How do you apply your thermal paste? What thermal paste are you using? Do you need any overclocking at all? What is your room temperature? Personally I wouldn't let temps climb over 60C

and that CPU fan(s) ( whatever ) probably hinders overall airflow due to its mass.

Honestly, given the good thermal management safeties built into intel processors, I wouldn't worry about it unless the cpu is throttling itself down to cool off.

Not sure about my room temps.

My RAM voltage is 1.5v.

I lower the clock to 1333mhz.

Also changed the timings from.

11-11-11-28

to

8-8-8-22

.

.

.

.

I guess after letting the air conditioner run for 10-15 minutes my temps are lower again.

This is with Prime 95 running for about 2 hours.

I use the line rice method along the middle.

I have also tried the pea size method.

I have reapplied thermal compound 3 times so far.

I make sure to clean off the old compound withisopropyl alcohol and let it dry for a few minutes before applying new compound and reseating the heatsink.

Those are fine for load temps. I have the same cpu @ 4.5 and use hyper 212 and 8+ hours in prime I never got past 59c on any core. I think anything under 65c is good for a fair oc.

Edit: That hs/f is absolutely ridiculous in size.

Something must be wrong if your hyper 212 gets those temps when my heatsink is one of the best air cooling heatsinks on the market and runs hotter.

Either that or your room must be pretty cold.

Well I take performance over looks.

The video card also takes up three slots.

In a heart beat! Though a combination of performance and looks will always win out. :P

Noctua makes good coolers, I got one of theirs in the big gaming tower, and it's nicely quiet as well as effective. And personally I think that if it runs under 65C after two hours of Prime95, you have nothing to worry about for daily use, unless Prime95 is what you run all day long. ;)
