this is a murky subject but read the whole thing please.

would you ever play a game that let YOU play as a terrorist in single player. if so what special abilities would you look forward to most. what setting would you like it to be? korea, iraq, afghanistan?

depends on how its handled if ur running around blowing up innocent women and children id have something against it but if its like CS terrorists i wouldnt have a problem with it

the thing is a game where you could be a terrorist would never be developed by a major studio because the press would say its a game that trains you how to be a terrorist

I haven't seen many of these games. Which ones are you talking about? I can only think of Counterstrike and those Army strategy games that came out on the XBox and the PC. I can't remember the name of that series.

Right, but there's more to it than that. Using that definition, a school bully is a terrorist & anyone who tries to intimidate someone else would be a terrorist.

of course if the game is fun with great graphics and gameplay ill play as a terrorist and as nazokxx said im comftorable with blowing up americans :D :P

Na, I wouldn't. Even though games are fantasy, I don't see the fun or value of killing americans in this context. It's not that I am overly sensitive, heck, I own Postal 2, and in that game you not only kill Americans, but you can urinate on them as well. The difference is, of course, the context in which your killing them. In Postal 2, you are a derranged maniac and the theme of the game is crazy and so far fetched it's impossible to take serious. However, in a game where you are a terrorist fight Americans and American soldiers, I think this is a bit different. The wild and zany antics do not apply anymore, and the context you are in "killing" is different too.

Luckily, I don't think any serious publisher/developer would ever make such a game. It would flop (at least in America) and the company would probally go under as people would probably never buy a game from them again.

i play CS 1.6 as a terrorist sometimes but it's just for fun, no story or something - i wouldn't play as a terrorist in story to kill the good guys, even on BF2 i try to not play as the Arabic side PredatorRules

The only time I would play as a terrorist (or even as 'the bad guys') is in a multiplayer game. The reason is that blowing up civilians etc., just doesn't appeal to me, and it's also why I've never felt compelled to try gangland games or things like Postal. I have a strong sense of justice and I suppose that carries over into gaming. I guess I just can't have a good time unless I feel I'm fighting to 'do the right thing'.

That's not to say I wouldn't be comfortable killing people from any nation in a game (including US and Britain) if it was in a proper context of 'doing the right thing'. For example, if Britain was portrayed as some kind of oppressive totalitarian state and I was a freedom fighter, then I would have no issue with that at all. Of course, it could be argued that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, so there is always some ambiguity there, but I guess we all have to follow our own moral compass.

So define 'the good guys'. Because I don't feel like a good guy when I'm killing the generic non-white 'baddie' in so many recent shooters. I don't have anything against the American people but I feel like I'm part of some propaganda machine when I've played GRAW or America's Army. So, yeah, if there was a game where I was playing a terrorist trying to get a foreign army off my own country, I'd play it. But planting bombs or directing sucide bombers would be a little too far, in my opinion.
