Guys I have started playing TF2 and even though I suck terribly at it, I am having a blast. What a great game!!! I am looking for any tips to help me get better. Also, are the items in the store that cost real $$$ alot of help?

Not really, drops are the best way to get items. Buying them is like buying meat: At first you like it, but after a while it turns bad and you dont know how to get rid of it (bought items cannot be traded .....unless with gift wrap)Guys I have started playing TF2 and even though I suck terribly at it, I am having a blast. What class are you playing as? Each class has it's own role, so it would be too much work to go in depth with tips for every class.
Your stock weapons are better than most weapons you get in the store. One thing I learned in tf2 is to not run solo. That is, never rush into and engagement without some teammates or your going to lose every time if the opponent is better. look at what classes your team needs and choose that class, not the one you want to play. In the long run you get to know more about each class and you help your team a lot. Its often best to retreat than to push and try and finish off someone. Playing passive aggressively in TF2 gets you the kills.

You don't HAVE to buy any item in TF2 because you can unlock, craft, and trade items the more you play. I say get to know all the default items first because they are, most of the time, the best. Once you get a handle on the default items then its way more satisfying when you try out different items and playstyles. Look at the stats of items and see if you would like that kind of playstyle.

Pay attention to the general flow of the game and you will be fine. If the team is pushing then pick an offensive class and NOT scout unless you are sure that you can not run into a wall of sentries. If your team is defending pick a defensive class like heavy or sniper and try to deny the enemy area until time runs out. The game isn't hard when you understand the mechanics behind it.
Try and know the role of each class and work to help the team and not yourself. People notice a good team more than a good player.
As others have said, heavy and medic are the easiest. Spy is probably the hardest to play. Don't worry though because the more you play the more you learn.
The game is very much about positioning. Right now, just stick with at least one person on your team at all times. Play pretty much any class except spy, sniper, or engineer on defense because you won't really learn much from playing them. Soldier would be pretty good because it's pretty easy to be alright at. If you're good at aiming and dodging, try scout. You could be Medic but if you're bad, people will probably get mad at you. Whenever you're playing medic, just remember it's always better to uber early instead of dying.

glad you're enjoying it. here's a tip. if you're playing scout, never use a teleporter. scouts can run fast enough to get to where the action is. let your slow moving teammates use the teleporter.
there's a guide / FAQ for new players at the GameFAQs TF2 boards
also, i think the only items worth getting at the store are [rocket jumper] and the [sticky jumper] worth 50cents each. these weapons are for different playstyIe of demomen and soldiers. its used for rocket jumping without taking damage (Note: they also dont deal damage to opponents). they are way expensive if you buy from other players.
Really? I actually found the learning curve to be quite low (the influx of new players probably helped with that). Pick a few classes that you like, and focus on those. When you play, play as a team and do your role, and the points will come. If you're in a server where teamwork is practically absent, consider changing servers.dk00111Its easy to get started and be decent at, but it takes a while to learn all the quirks of the class and be able to use them to their potential. The pyro is a perfect example of this, a class simple to start but with a massive amount of depth.

indeed i mean he can be such a utility. personnaly i snipe with the flare gun thats like fun to tha max :P
i think ive actually felled more folks with the flares than the flamethrower itself.
like I said use an aimbot it will be more fun. Just tweak it so it doesn't make you do a 360. You can also just bind it to something like mouse 3. That way it doesn't annoy people all the time.ejeetIt also gets you VAC banned and you won't be able to play your Source games online assuming you have some. That's the worst advice.

No it's not the worst advice. I wouldn't recommend it before... But the game is FREE now. VAC Banned? Okay just make a new account and play again...... VAC bans are also delayed. Meaning you could get banned a month after cheating, or 6 years after cheating. It's their clever *cough awful* anti-cheat system. He can just bind an aimbot to a key so he has some fun. Get a positive score. You know, not getting totally slaughtered and smashing face on keyboard. It must suck to be a cheater...who ever heard of enjoying a game, nah, just get a hack and continue to press a button till you get bored of killing people or get banned, then you find another server/make another account and repeat for a few days then forget about the game. The worst of the online community right, here, too bad every game has such players.
Boy, you sure showed me ;)Did it occur to you that people buy games on Steam and have other VAC games from Valve?
VAC is not enabled on all games. It is enabled for the classic half-life era games and the source games.
[QUOTE="boybrushdred"][QUOTE="ejeet"]I think you need to read how VAC works. check the FAQ and use google as well. VAC is not enabled on all games. It is enabled for the classic half-life era games and the source games. Other companies use anti-cheat like punkbuster or they don't at all.ejeetTF2 is a Source game so VAC works on TF2 Yes? Why are you telling me something I already know and stated? You never stated it and clearly don't know it.
I guess I have to bold it LOL. You guys might want to get your eyes checked. It is enabled for the classic half-life era games and the source games LOLejeetAnd yet you said VAC will enable a repeat offense on TF2 suggesting that it is not applied. VAC is one of the strictest anti-hacking programs out there and if you think its going to allow you to use aimbot, you're very much mistaken, troll.
[QUOTE="Starshine_M2A2"][QUOTE="ejeet"] Do you have a life? I mean your trolling me here trying to a prove a point. I don't know what your point is though. You don't read posts and can't accept your wrong. I guess you don't have a life? LOL.ejeetHow am I the troll when you're telling people to learn to read and to accept your own opinion as fact. Plus your continuation of this topic for no reason whatsoever and your general offensive attitude. Now, I risk becoming a troll myself and I also have better things to do than talk to you so I will therefore cease my involvement in this thread. But, I would like to say as a closing statement that you are one seriously deluded and misinformed individual. nice way to go out LOL. Just because you were wrong about VAC and you won't even read posts. You can try to make yourself feel better after your bantering but ultimately you failed here. My guess is a few of these people who have responded to me have been VAC banned before. Following Dust's example here with the X2 end post but you actually said that VAC works on source games - not that TF2 was a source game. Therefore you did not state it and your claim that using an aimbot will not be detected by VAC is as wrong is it possibly could be. So essentially, you're a liar as well as a troll. Anyway, making like Dust!
I never said other games didn't use VAC. I said some don't . L2read again.ejeet
