now that we got to play around with the new stuff a little, what are your impressions on the update?

shotgun v. flare gun?

the improved flamethrower v. backburner?

old ax v. axtinguisher?

also, thoughts on the achievements?

i only got to 10 achievements (+ 1 milestone achievement) thus far. EVERYONE was going pyro, so some of them i won't be able to achieve until much later when people stop playing the pyro class. but i hated the flare gun; at least, i suck with it. i'd much rather use the good ol' shotgun. from what i've seen of the backburner, i think that's definitely a keeper; 50+ health, critical hits when attacking from behind - sounds like a winner. there were several times i was going one on one with someone wielding the backburner, and i could have sworn that i got the better of him, but because of his 50 extra health points, i ended up on the wrong end of the stick. i personally don't think i care much for the axtinguisher, since i rarely use the melee weapon, though i guess it would be an improvement over the ax.

anyway, thoughts, comments?

no fun, too many pyros. makes getting the achievements even harder. and the game is pretty much pyro plus pals versus pyros plus buddies.

I haven't gotten a chance to play much tf2 yet today, I'll try my hand at getting some of the pyro achievements. But the pyro is my least played class with only 56mins, so I'm not that interested. On a side note, I'm soooo relieved, I reformatted my pc today and forgot to backup tf2, and thought I was gonna lose my stats and achievements.

How's the compression blast on the flamethrower?

It's good for launching people off of high areas and in that effect disconnecting healing medics, but it takes alot of ammo.

compression blast is awesome for clearing stickies off of sentries, if you have a smart demo on the other team. also the usual punting people or occasional crit rockets away. the flare gun seems situational.. sometimes i'm using it, mostly when i want to be able to harass snipers and medics from farther out. it's nice to be able to set them on fire from across the map, though it's also useless in the water. the new flamethrower is pretty win.. i found myself using it constantly until i realized the compression thing would be useful to keep the sentries alive. but otherwise.. come up behind someone and you basically backstab them, along with everybody else that the flames happen to catch. new axe i like :D it's situational again, but with the overabundance of pyros i'm using it to follow other pyros in. it's basically a one-shot for most.. if a soldier or heavy is on fire, it's likely they're hurt and one-shottable by the axe anyway.

yeah, i like the compression blast thing to clear stickies as well - i did about 50 of the 100 that i need to get the achievement that way. but i think i'm gonna have to go with the backburner (once i get it - stop playing as pyro, people!!!) over the improved flamethrower. it looks kewler too! :D

There's actually no point of using the Axtinguisher at this time when the update has just released. The point of the axtinguisher is to get a critical hit when an enemy is ignited, but there's one problem.... Everyone's a pyro :/

I just unlock the flare gun not much of a chance to use it, but its going to be fun to use it. You have to search to find a good server. I was in two servers I never been in and there only 5 maybe 6 pyros on team of 16 people. Also good time for a medic, for those who haven't unlock those achivements yet.

I think the weapons are awesome and all, really fun to play with against anyone else but Pyros. But as much fun the weapons can be, the whole general game experience has been turned less fun, as they realease these changes for classes one by one, which stacks us up with the same class everywhere. I'd rather they waited until all classes has had their changes, before releasing them.

true, but i think it helps promote the game and makes the game that much more replayable. plus, people go back to playing their favorite classes after a week or so; this pyro craze should be over soon enough. thank goodness for all those achievement servers!!!

The new flame thrower is a bit overpowered. The rest is perfect. Good job Valve on balancing that class

The compression blast is awesome.

However, until everything goes back to normal and there aren't 7 Pyros on each team, I'll reserve judgment on the new items. Initial impressions are positive, though. The flare gun is quite useful against Snipers.

yay! i just got the backburner. i basically played around with an enemy's sticky bombs to get that projectile deflection thingie achievement. kinda cheap way to get my 15th regular achievement, but hey, it was either that or wait for the rare spy or get 80 more kills with the flamethrower. anyway, that backburner feels...heavier and bulkier. but that extra 50 health points helps me stay alive a bit longer so i can get that extra kill. nice. too bad i started getting used to the compression blast. - i weakened a couple of soldiers with it and finished them off with the flamethrower.

ya i know its sad, i heard nobody plays it, elsewise im loving tf2 lol

it has a small community of regulars, just like any other semi-popular xbox live game. the one thing i hate though is that it caps at 8v8. imo, this is probably ideal for cometitive gaming (mlg and the like), but i think 12v12 would be a lot more fun. im thinking of building a pc to play it on steam, but thatll cost me $900 (still need a monitor, keyboard, os, wifi adapter) and by the time the parts get here ill probably be done with my team-objective-fps phase.
