Actually the 2 x 4870x2 went wire to wire with the GTX 280 SLI, so it's better this time around. http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTUzMSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==[QUOTE="daytona_178"][QUOTE="iBP_Rickochet"]How about 2x 4870x2... Quad-crossfire FTW?Marfoo

[QUOTE="iBP_Rickochet"]How about 2x 4870x2... Quad-crossfire FTW?MarfooYou know this one is scalable up to 4 x 4870x2, Octo-Crossfire FTW? Need hell of a PSU for that.
I don't think this goes to 4x4870x2. lol, that would be ridiculous. Besides, drivers don't support more than 4 GPUs...yet...

With the 4870x2 enable 2xAA and it will give you better performance than 0xAA! :o
At least on age of conan.
Hell, even with 8xAA the card doesnt seem to lose performance!

Enable AA to GAIN performance? What the hell!?
Nice card, runs a little hot tho. I'd like to now if it shows microstuttering or w/e. And in a few cases min fps are better on the GTX280..
What should I do? Get a GTX280 and then step-up within the next 3 months for the next nVidia graphics card? Or get a HD4870X2 with a Ruby sticker on it?

Closest your going to get is the AoC on Hardocp preview where they pit a 4870x2 CrossfireX against 280GTX tri-sli. At 2560x1600 the performance king, in that game, at that resolution, is the CrossfireX by a huge margin.
It is to the point that I am considering 4870x2 CrossfireX on my corsair HX-1000. Course any good 750w-850w PSU with 80%+ efficiency is perfect for the CrossfireX.
Things only get more exciting at 2560x1600 for these video cards. We are just flat out floored, with drool everywhere, at the level of immersion these platforms allow at 2560x1600 in Age of Conan. No joke, we found 8X AA playable on both, but the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 CrossFireX platform still comes out the winner here. With GeForce GTX 280 SLI we were able to play at true 8X MSAA at 2560x1600 with the highest in-game settings, very impressive indeed. However, the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 CrossFireX platform surpassed that by allowing us to enable Adaptive AA plus 8X AA to reduce aliasing on all the foliage in the game as well! Not only that, but as you can see, the performance is still even higher than GTX 280 SLI at these higher settings. Just simply outstanding!

Please, won't someone think of the children... er, power consumption (especially idle). Where's this famous powerplay I've heard about? I guess I'll be sitting this wave of cards out until power consumption is under control. Pretty disappointed by 2 x 512mb, too.Staryoshi87
4870 512 CF works wonders at 1920x1200. I think if you dont plan to push past it then you should be fine.

No real drivers for 2-3 weeks after the H4xxx series has me wondering if I should stick to the green team instead of jumping ship :( I guess I'll be sitting this wave of cards out until power consumption is under control. Those are previews. With completed BIOS and drivers ATi should fix that.

2-3 weeks haven't given us a "completed bios" or drivers for the 4800 series, why should this one be any different? It's like they blast out of the gates with awesome cards and then don't support them :(I want them to be good ;) Might go for an OC or 1GB HD4870 when they hit, by then maybe an offical driver will be out :P

Cause this card is very important step for AMD into high end market and multi-gpu solutions.

Even in SLI it chugs along at 1920x1200 with alot of AA/AF in Age of Conan.
Also my bad on the 280GTX tri-sli. I thought at the bottom it said that. I goofed and I apologize. Still, price point wise, the 280gtx sli and crossfire X is comparable. For board limitations, as you cant add another ATI card less your on the AMD chipset, vs the tri-sli on 780i for example, i can see why you want to see it.

Agreed, I mean, I got a third 280GTX coming in the mail for tri sli. Man I pwn.

Ummm.... PowerPlay was fixed about two weeks ago...
Dunno where you have been.
Also there will be a few different versions of R700, some will have 2Gb and some will have 1Gb.
