The 8800GT is around 25% more expensive than the 9600GT (on average). Show me a benchmark that consistantly shows the 8800GT 25% ahead of the 9600GT. I'm not saying that the 8800GT is a bad purchase or anything, but on a somewhat strict budget, the 9600GT is definitely the better buy, especially at lower resolutions.

It's sorta unfair to say that since it costs 25% more, it should perform 25% better. I'd say that if it performed 10% better, I'd be happy spending extra.

Here's some benchmarks.

The 8800GT (512MB) performs better than the 9600GT by a few frames, however the 9600GT has less power consumption.

RayvinAzn is right, the 9600GT is a better buy if you're on a stricter budget. The 8800GT is better if you have an extra $40 to blow.

and what if your planing to go Dual SLi

does the 9600 have any Dual tricks up its sleave

for a single card solution a 8800GT is better.

In SLI 2x9600GT's often beat 2x8800GT's!
