The Half-Life series is up there, of course. Absolutely brilliant singleplayer and multiplayer on the HL1 and Source engines.
F.E.A.R. is overrated, in my opinion. Awesome combat, but the guns feel "floaty" to me, the environments were extremely repetitive, and the scares were gimmicky and kind of annoying.
Call of Duty is awesome, but I think the multiplayer sucks. Call of Duty 2 was damn intense.
The Medal of Honor: Allied Assault games were awesome. The multiplayer was pretty good for a while. I remember my guns always lagged for some reason so I resorted to wallhacking. Pretty funny.
Never played Farcry.
If you haven't tried them yet, check out the No One Lives Forever series (excluding the second game's HORRIBLE expansion). They have amazing stories, hilarious dialogue (though the plots of the games are pretty serious) and a cool setting. The gameplay is spot on. Both games received 9.0 or higher from Gamespot, if I'm not mistaken. The first one is my favorite of the two, though the second has much more refined gameplay.
Counter-Strike: Source is great, though I tend to get bored with it after about a half hour. I prefer...
Day of Defeat: Source, especially the custom maps (check out the CAMP2 custom map pack -- the maps are better than the official ones).
I'm going to have to go with the Half-life series.
I like the Battlefield series also, but it's not good enough to be best fps.
Too much to choose from. Half-Life, FEAR, FarCry, Crysis etc. etc. all are amazing and all are or most likely will be series.Fyper
Crysis... crysis??? really?? isn't that like a not released yet game? you can tell is the best in the FPS universe jut because of graphics?...
Half Life hands down... for multiplayer Unreal Tournament and BF2 kick the bucket
the best is duke nukem 3d
and quake al wolfenstein ,doom, unreal t, and halo 1 is very good
viva chilee!!!
hal-life and call of duty series but if C&C Renegade has a follow up to that, ill probably go to renegade because its a great game..:)
Best 'series' of FPS games? I would probably have to say...
Half-Life
Jedi Knight
No One Lives Forever
Thief (okay, technically stealth games, but they are first person)
Rainbow Six (1, 2 and 3 at any rate)
Quake
Unreal (including UT)
I'm not going to include Far Cry or FEAR etc., because on PC they have only had one main game released so far, and can't really be considered a 'series' yet.
