Could the ipad even be considered an ipod? It's so big that it seems utterly useless to carry with you wherever you go to use as a media player. As far as just wanting to listen to music, I think any ipod, old or new, would suffice. I have an iphone and enjoy it because I listen to music off of it all the time at work, plus apps are nice to play with on breaks and whenever I am bored.

Is there really a difference between any of the iPods as far as sound quality goes?

Otherwise, I've had my 80GB Classic for two and a half years now and it's still great.

If its just for music, then none. There are cheaper MP3 players with more storage and much better sound qualtiy than any apple product right now. If you want to watch videos and play apps, go with an iTouch.

The best ipod is no ipod. Really, it has ventured so far off of what its main purpose was, that it's no longer a music player. My new favorite are Sonys line of mp3 players. They come in 8, 16, and 32 gig storage, FM radio, have a compact design, and give 34-40 hours of battery life. That is what a good "portable" music player should do. Personally, I own an ipod, but I have used the sonys and prefer them by a long shot. Even Itunes is starting to lose its edge--with the massive amounts of ads and "try this/try that" BS--I've been getting a lot of download errors from purchased items, as well. The sound quality is a little better on the Sonys, too.

There are some companies that make VERY small players that use microSD cards which are fantastic as well. An Ipod Shuffle is $75 for a 4gig displayless music player. A Scandisk Sansa is $50, has a dispaly, and can have its memory expanded via microsd card.

Yep, the iMod is one of the best players you can get, though you have to get ALO to mod it for you.
