Hi all!

So, I am going to give Morrowind another try. I want to like the game, I really do, but I just cant seem to get past the first 30 minutes. The visuals definately play a role in this. Shallow, I know, but what do you want me to do!?!

Sooooo I was hoping you veterans of TES III could list your favorite, or at least the most common mods. Please provide links :)

I am specifically interested in:

-graphic overhauls, specifically textures
-additional items you might deem as necessary to an enhanced gameplay experience
-necessary gameplay mods that will make my experience more enjoyable.

The 2011 mod is the easiest one since it takes hundreds of separate mods and makes it as simple as running a single exe. You'll have to find it on a torrent site though since it was pulled by the guy who put it together.

This is the mod the poster above me was referring to: http://www.gamepron.com/news/2011/01/03/morrowind-2011-mod-complete-download-here/

It's very similar to what I posted.

The 2011 mod uses MGE,though.

MGE is unoptimised and kills your performance.

MGE is fine. My Morrowind runs smooth and looks like this...

All I'm using is the Morrowind graphics and sound overhaul. You can find it at Bethesda's Modding forums I believe.

I tried the 2011 mod and I got a terrible framerate.Haven't tried the overhaul mod, though.

What are your specs and resolution? What is your average FPS?

edit:C'mon man, answer my question:PI want to see whether I can run it.I want to start the download if I can.

I have an i7 @ 4.0 ghz, HD Radeon 5850, and 6GB of DDR3 RAM. I'm playing at 1080P and my framerate outdoors varies from 20fps-50fps and indoors is almost always 60+.

Hmm,20 sounds bad. Do you think I can pull off a better framerate with my 260 gtx at 1360x768?

20 isn't that bad at all. You could probably play the game adequately with less than that. Depends where you are, my FPS is lowest in towns like Balmora and Vivec.. Also, keep in mind that I have my view distance cranked to 17 cells, and it's recommended you keep it around 12. There are so many things you can tweak to bring your FPS in line. I find a minimum of 20 FPS to be perfectly adequate, especially when the game looks so beautiful.

I will keep my draw distance low and hopefully my framerate won't go below 30.I will also turn off useless stuff like AF and SSAO.Thanks:)

AF and SSAO are probably the best things you can turn on to make your game look better :P

A few mods I like are: - No More Cliff Racers [I hate the buggers] - Improved Faces [makes NPC's look much better] - Clean Tales of Seyda Neen [adds some quick quests to the Seyda Neen area that add some flavor and adventure] - Adul's Library Revised [+ Portable Library - requires MWSE] - allows me to collect books to my hearts content [basic mod adds a Library to the outskirts of Vivec, portable library adds a "pocket hole" library you can gain access to by finding an item in a dungeon] - A Strange Death - adds a player purchasable house to Seyda Neen with a small quest attached - Books of Vvardenfell - adds a ton of new books to the game and, of course, the Morrowind Code Patch

Phenom x4 965 clocked to 4 ghz, ati 5870 (soon to be replaced) and I play at 1920x1200 resolution with everything maxed. I haven't actually even done any bench-marking, but I've been playing the game like this for a month with no stuttering or visible framerate slowing.

But, I am curious about the framerates. I'll run the game tonight and see what fraps tells me.

Those screens made me want to reinstall Morrowind.
