Surprisingly 2008 has been pretty slow for our platform. Besides ports one high profile game we had lately was Age of Conan. My favorite PC game for 2008 so far has to be Mass Effect.
[QUOTE="devious742"]the witcher...i just started playing it.. maybe thats why i think its awesome:PHerrick
Good game but it came out late last year.
I can't think of any great games I played that came out this year. Did Crysis come out this year? That was pretty good.
oh yeah you are right...geez im late XDcrysis came out 2007

Damn. Anything else really good come out this year yet?
I think its a great game but definitely not the best story, a good one, but not close to the best. I'm not sure which PC game I think is the best so far but you guys have named some really good ones. JordanKid
Which game are you talking about, mang?
[QUOTE="thusaha"][QUOTE="Johnny_Rock"][QUOTE="fatshodan"]Sins of a Solar Empire.mo0ksi
By far.
Same here.I agree on this as well.I think Sins is a good game, but the lack of a single player campaign/story bumped it down a couple of points for me.
If it wasn't for Sins...I would say this is the worse year ever so far...
ME and AC were so blah.. pretty but blah...especially AC...ughhh...ME was just medicore
Just glad about all the new games coming out....at least the last part of the year will be better....FO3, FC 2, SC 2 etc....
For me its Mass Effect still. In so many ways it is the perfect pc game. For one thing the game is beautiful even on lower end systems. I'm currently playing it on my imac with everything maxed out and it is great. Not only that but the gameplay is top notch combinng my two favourite genres rpg and third person shooter and i think everyone can agree that not only does ME have a great story but possibly the best story in video gaming history. Bioware has done a fantastic job and I can't wait for the sequel. Even though EA has bought Bioware I think they will still stay very true to there roots and continue making great games. Brave bioware you trully are a contender for GOTYMac_Gamer101
Nothing really outside of ME, but overall that will change once the heavey hitters come out..(spore, far cry 3,fallout 3 ect..)

So what? Civ4 doesn't have a story campaign, did you bump that down a couple points as well?
I was just about to ask the exact same question. No one has ever criticised Civilization or Total War for not having a story, but people expect it of Sins. It's a double standard, and it's unfair and unreasonable to lump Sins with the 20-minutes-a-round RTS crowd when it plays far more like Civ or TW.

I have not played Civ4, so this line of questioning is somewhat moot. I prefer games with a story line and campaign. That's all. Like I said, Sins is a good RTS, but for me, not the best game to be released this year. Am I biased? Yes. Because I prefer games with a story line. Does that mean I'm right and your wrong? No. It's just opinion, people.
its been slow for most platforms i mean 360 wise i had GTA 4 and battlefield pretty much it nothing really happens in gaming till September to December because they think they will all make more moneySurprisingly 2008 has been pretty slow for our platform. Our point is simply that a story/campaign is impractical in this kind of game, and more than that, not having a story is the accepted genre standard, as evidenced by Civ, Total War and the like.
Criticising the game for any reason you want is all good and well, but if it doesn't come from a place of reason, people will not hesitate to point that out to you. For instance, I might criticise Crysis for not having a sequence where a theater appears and the antics of glove-puppets amuse me for half an hour, but people would just smirk and tell me that that is a silly criticism. The same is true with a story in Sins.
