It has been a while since Skirim the last of this years big condeners has hitted shelfs.

So witch one in your opinion deserves the title od 2011 best?

Dragon Age 2 - a good game, but it lacks excellence of the originall. Relativly shallow and dumbed down when compered to DA1.

Witcher 2 - a strong canddidate. Still it had weird diffultity progression ( man, i thought i would uninstall it before i managed to complete ballista quest), and night empty 3rd act.

Skyrim - i admit i havent played it much yet. Still i know it has some typicall problems of them TES series - glitches, bugs, etc. Luckilly not too many.

Fable III - i know nothing about the game. I put it here just to be taken into consideration

others - i don't predent to know every game released this year, so if you have an other fauvorite, go ahead.

I concentreed on the negatives. Still all seem to be good games. I personaly vote witcher 2, for i prefer story riven RPG over sandbox ones. I admit i cant speak about Skirim too much yet.

^^this is the PC board.

Witcher 2 easily, with Deus Ex in second.

I'm afraid to say that Skyrim didn't grab me like it did others, proably because I think dragons are the lowest of the low as far as fantasy plot tropes go.

Its still a great game that I'm getting enjoyment out of, but its too buggy and the main quest is too generic (and broken, damnit Esburn) for it to surpass Deus Ex or Witcher 2 which had very strong, mature stories that really made me think.

I found Witcher 2 to be incredibly engrossing and beutiful, but also very dark and mature at the same time. The janky combat has been improved with the last couple patches, and choices you make have really impressive impacts in how the game plays out. I can still recall the names, personalities and roles of most major characters in The Witcher 2, something few games can do.

Skyrim and The Witcher2 for me. (Deus Ex HR I dont consider a rpg first, more of a fps with rpg elements. Awesome game though).

On the indie scene I would have to say To The Moon and Bastion (Avadon was good to)

Skyrim for me. And it could be argued that Deus Ex might not qualify as a full-blown roleplaying game, but regardless...

I've only finished two RPGs this year. Witcher 2 and River of Time. I'd say Witcher 2, but it is not so far apart from Drakensang. The game makes up for an old style rpg.

Skyrim, only had a few little glitches and can't say the patches have affected my game at all. Worst i've had is that the game seems to crash to desktop but no freezing or pause or anything, if anything it's a good crash because i can immediately start it up again without having to end the process or anything.

I voted Skyrim, the Witcher 2 is in a very close second though. I think Skyrim and The Witcher 2 are both about equal, it's just a question of if you like story driven RPG's or more open world ones. Although in a couple of months when the mods start rolling out for Skyrim it will be unbelievable.

I think the stronger main story of the Witcher 2 takes it for me.

I appriciate the incredible open world experience that Skyrim offers, but it's just not as appealing as a great main narrative for my money.

I'm a bit biased towards Skyrim, but I had more fun with it than with TW2, so Skyrim.

story, quests and npc: very important in an rpg for me, so I vote Witcher 2. Skyrim is awesome though, thing is, I don't really care much for its world or its npcs. But the witcher 2 is my ultimate game of the year.

Skyrim without a doubt for me. Already at 100 hours and I think i'm only halfway through the main quest.

Witcher 2 was absolutly fantastic too.

Haven't played Deus Ex yet, but am looking forward to it.

What a year for RPGs. I think we can all agree on that.

The Witcher 2 is an easy win, from that list.

Skyrim has terrible roleplaying - the quests are mostly linear (both in the literal sense of dungeons feeling like they're on-rails, and in the sense that you have no real say in how quests play out), the very few choices you can make have no significant consequences (even your choice of race is essentially meaningless, in a game that attempts racist undertones), and the world is almost entirely static/unresponsive (besides the guards greeting you in different ways, and more dragons turning up later in the main quest), .
Beyond the shoddy roleplaying, the game itself isn't too bad (nor is it particularly outstanding), but it's full of poor design choices and riddled with bugs, so The Witcher 2 wins there as well.

Witcher 2, how is this even a question?

innominatus2

Well, Skyrim isn't an RPG. Ignoring the stat 'requirement' the game pretty much consists of nothing but dungeon crawling with pretty much no choice. It is good for what it is don't get me wrong but calling it an RPG is like calling Quake an adventure game.

Deus Ex 3 is pretty good and has quite a few choices in there. My biggest complaint about the game was the Bioware style of dialog, there are a lot of choices for flavor but they pretty much amount to 0. Really kills replayability. I know a lot of other RPGs are plagued with this problem but given the series I sort of expected a little more in the way of replayability.

Drakensang: River of Time (released over here in 2011) is pretty good from what I played but I'm not a huge fan of the Dark Eye ruleset. If I actually finished this one all the way through I could see it being my RPG of the year because real time with pause is my favorite type of game.

Cthhulu Saves the World is a nice throw back JRPG but it relies too much on nostalgia and being funny.

E.Y.E Divine Cybermany has the best combat in pretty much any FPS/RPG hybrid but the translation is god awful at best making it hard to really enjoy.

Bastion I have yet to play aside from the demo. It looked really well done but still didn't pull me in enough to purchase it.

Still need to play Avadon but it looks like a solid game, same as all of Jeff's other games.

Witcher 2 has strong choices that actually matter, good combat, good dialog and strong replayability because of the 2 paths.

Edit: I noticed someone mentioned To the Moon. Wouldn't that be considered an adventure game over an RPG since the game (from what I've heard, its on the play list) consists of the player going through the story occasionally solving puzzles?

Same here. Skyrim and TW2. Deus Ex HR would be my RPG had it be considered more of an RPG than shooter? How do we classify it when it comes to voting for RPG? Does it even get included in the ballet? Just curious.

I have to go with the The Witcher 2 on this one. Skyrim impressed the heck out of me at first but quickly got old.
