Well my brothers 8800gt finally craped out after I gave it too him awhile back. What a great card that was, had it since they first released.

Now onto the question I have a buddy that has a 4890 that he doesn't use any more and is willing to sell it for fifty bucks. The question is, Is the 4890 going to last with games starting to come out in dx11? Would it be better to use that fifty towards a dx 11 card or is dose the 4890 still have a couple of years left in it. He mainly plays shooters MW2, Crysis, Counter Strike.

His specs

Cpu E8500

DDR2 2gb Ram

32 Bit XP

Dead 8800gt

21in Monitor at 1650 x 1080

600w Coshair psu

The 4890 still has a lot of life left in it. $50 bucks is also a great price imo.

Just gonna throw this out there, but have you have tried to fix the 8800gt doing the oven trick? Mine crapped out on me and I did the oven trick and continued using it until I bought a 6870 last week (the 8800gt was still working when I replaced it after doing the oven trick).

For fifty theres really nothing to lose! It performs around the 5830 level just without the dx11.

For $50? I say go for it. DX11 cards ain't worth buying at the moment unless you're spending $160 or more. It's better to wait until DX11 becomes more of a standard before I think they're truly worth buying. At the moment they're more of just a luxury for a handful of games. As time goes buy, better performing DX11 cards will come out and their performance will be much more desirable.

I'm just worried about it lasting another 2 years and being able to play games at high settings. Eventually I will give him my PC in about 2 years time so he really just needs something to get by on for a couple of years.

That will get him by for two more years. Heck the card I have still plays most games on at LEAST high and the 4890 is way more powerful. He'll be fine

Yep. Im maxing everything no problem, 60+FPS in all new games that I have tried (Which is pretty much all of them). DX10 cards wont be going away anytime soon, so theres no worry there.
