Xbox and Playstation rely on advances made by PC graphic technologies.

For that matter Netflix wouldn't be in existence without the graphic demands of PC gamers.

Without the PC and its gamers, then there is less push for advances in the other areas since console gamers are a captive consumer group. We are not captive in any way and our demands for better graphics know no bounds!

We are the driving force behind a revolution in graphic technology so the next company that wants to opt out of PC games will learn to regret that decision due to their laziness. Their games will (soon enough) become stale and cookie-cutter and their profits will erode. Those companies that remain cutting edge will thrive!

That sounds a little twisted. Console games were better looking when they first came out than any pc game.

The PC can get upgrades at any time but when you buy a console your stuck with the same graphics until a new one comes out.

How so?

There wouldn't be anything called a "console" without the PC. The PC helped to develop the console. Without PC gamers, then your console technology will stagnate.

:?

When?

In the 80´s. The consoles back then (ATARI etc) had better graphics than the PC. The PC originally only had monochrome character display. Then came the CGA adapter : it could only display four colors out of a menu of a total of 16 colors at any given moment, and at a resolution of 320 x 200. That was at the time the C64 was way ahead. Sure, the C64 was not a true console, but the other consoles at the time were way better.

It was only in the 90's that the PC surpassed consoles. With the invention of 3D accelerator cards, the PC never lost it's edge.

So ends the history lesson.

Back in the late eighties/early ninties graphics on consoles were much better than the PC. The PC was still running on EGA/VGA at the time.

i would say since 2000 pc games have shot ahead in terms of visual quality. and with crysis, world in conflict, etc, the pc is ahead of the pack again

The c64 wasnt a game console at all...I owned one for about 2 yrs and never bought one piece of software for it as I programmed everything i needed. However there were several games available for the c64 and they did look good for back then (track and field) etc

consoles are computers with custom operating systems and hardware that can't be replaced, and are controlled with two sticks and several buttons

i think the developers push for better graphics more than the players because, honestly, who wants to spend another $500 to be able to run these new games? its true that the PC basically displays what the next generation will be able to render 5 years prior to that generation, though.

and i personally would prefer better gameplay over better graphics

idk man. Usually when new consoles reach the market it's superior to what's on the PC. I still don't think we even surpass the current consoles to a point where they look dated. Only difference that's really noticeable are speeds a.k.a better framerates and a slight visual boost.

So, what you're saying is that PC gamers are to blame for the current game industry mentality that amazing graphics are all that's important, and that story, innovation, characterization, gameplay, etc. (you know, the important stuff) are all expendable? I guess Valve is screwed because they're still using the dated Source engine. damn, I might just have to stop playing PC games so I can see more games like Mass Effect come out.

Seriously, I know that you want to feed your ego and convince yourself that you're better than everyone else because you play your games on your computer, but this isn't the place for a topic like this. System Wars is. you'd probably enjoy yourself more over there as well, as there are plenty of idiot console fanboys who would be more than happy to make fools of themselves.

Also have no clue how Netflix relies on PC graphics to survive... last I checked they rented DVD's, and had absolutely nothing to do with PC gaming...

one thing people keep forgetting and a reason why PC gaming will not die:

the ability to create mods and by doing so make a name for yourself and go on to make games for money (see makers of et:quake wars, brothers in arms, ship, and the upcoming frontlines)

the pc is the only platform a small team can create games like savage 2, nitro stunt racing, defcon, the ship etc. reason been you don't have to pay for dev kits, the pc is open source so you don't pay roaylties, and digital distribution.

the pc isn't only about graphics, its about been able to try experiment and create games. Its probably why all the big franchises saw birth on the PC

well said

a good example is the developers of Counter-Strike...they just made a simple mod for a game they loved, and it became the most popular online shooter of all time, now they're hired by valve and getting to work on big budget titles
