It depends on what setting you want really.. WaW has more multiplayer modes and also has co op, making it have more features. I'd say most people still play cod4 because of its modern day settingCoD WaW is an OK at best multiplayer format while CoD4 is definitely better though. TF2 sits atop for me. But honestly any valve game is going to be one of the best online out there.

SO i am going to start by saying in my opinion it is call of duty world at war for its amazing graphics , gameplay and its almost perfect online multiplayer modecyborg123I find it interesting that the graphics is the first thing on your list of why WAW is the best multiplayer shooter.
I can't believe people still play trial and error games like RTS or CS or Crysis

I can't believe it..the nerve on some people >_> playing other types of games, they should all just play FPS CO-OP games since they are the future, developers should concentrate more on FPS games, because we don't get enough of them, 2 or 3 FPS games per year are far from enough.
Also people that play games that they like or games that are not FPS should be banned from the internet.
/sarcasm
CoD 4, GRID, TMUF, CS, CS: S, TF 2, CoH, WiC, Crysis -the original one, not Wars, I like the multiplayer part of the first one a lot more.
TF2- It's pretty hard to go it alone in this game. I usually see a fair amount of team work in this game.visceron
Is that why it's called Team Fortress?
How is CS "trial and error"? I really enjoy L4D but I don't think that it is the best online game, in fact I don't think any coop game could be the best. Online gaming is all about competition and with coop you just don't get that. CSS is easily the best online game.Either L4D or SWAT 4 since they both have co-op and are dynamic.

Bahaha.
Pwnt.
It's certainly Counter-Strike: Source. TF2 is a bit lopsided at the moment, where half the classes or so are updated and the other half aren't. There's also many less players.
Not so sure about that one :P.L4D. It's the first online shooter that requires real teamwork.

[QUOTE="Qixote"]Not so sure about that one :P. I said "real" teamwork. Not just teamwork. Sure, many games make teamwork useful, but not necessarily require it. Some who camp out online 24/7 can still get by ignoring much of the team.L4D. It's the first online shooter that requires real teamwork.

I *might* see where you're coming from if you've only pubbed your entire life.L4D. It's the first online shooter that requires real teamwork.

I'm not really sure which one is the "best", but in my opinion Team Fortress 2 is the most fun. Left4Dead can also be fun with a good group of people, but it gets repetitive pretty quickly.
Either TF2 CS or Gears Of War 1 for me. I know people are going to make fun of Gears Of War but I loved the online in the first one. The second one is a dead lost.
At the moment = Team Fortress 2
My favorite old school online shooter = Quake1 and Tribes
Counterstrike Source, Left4Dead, Unreal2k4, Call Of Duty1 and Jedi Knight games get a shoutout to.
No game is as fun as TF2 though imo. Its got just a great community, the best updates, best gameplay and a very high fun factor. Not to mention tons of user made levels,etc.. What can i say, ive played most online FPS over the years and TF2 atm is hands down the best for me personally. I love games where you have to work as a team.
star wars battlefront 2
when playing on huge servers with noobs its boring,
but if you play on a private server with people who are pros it is incredibly fun
you can just get better and better in swbf2, there is really no limit
tf2 is ok too, but certain things can get incredibly annoying, like too many spies turrets or pyros
crysis wars is another good one
you can play it in many different styles, although sadly speed mode seems to be overpowered in multiplayer

You can go at it alone, but you're chances of success are close to nothing. That game was released several years before L4D.L4D. It's the first online shooter that requires real teamwork.

CS:S. While I had played CS from early versions, I lost interest in it when 1.6 came along (1.5 best version IMO).
