The downside of PC gaming, at least for me.

Ok, Im 24 and have been playing PC games for 13 years now, and I noticed recently I have a callus on each wrist  . I guess the repeated abuse and pressure of playing games without comfortable cushioning and on hard desks has lead to this. They aren't really that huge, but they are noticeable (especially for me since I just stare at these dammn things in disbelief :x)

So yeah, anyone else with a callus or am I just a freak.

36 and I've been gaming way longer than you and no, no callus.

Yup, though it's probably also affected by how you grip and move your mouse (those who rest their palm flush on the mouse probably don't encounter this.)

Get a soft mousepad or one of those gel wrist rests.

I searched gel pads for keyboard and mousepads on NewEgg and found they were $10 each  , so I did the next best thing; I improvised and rolled up two towels and now using them as "gel" rests  I found it to be soooo much more comfortable

Well then what are you doing on the pc games forum?

ANYWAY, I highly recommend one of those stand-alone wrist rests so that you don't have to get used to a new mousepad and all that. I use one with a plain old cloth mousepad and am holding up fine so far.

How unfortunate --- someone needs to tell you that this could potentially jeopardize any aspirations of a sucessful career in hand-modeling

Aside from that though, things look much brighter :D Consider yourself an official hardcore PC gamer, with the battle scars to prove it!

Do you slide your wrists along the desk? In addition to gaming, I'm a software developer as well, so my wrists are resting on a desk quite often in a given day and I don't have any calluses. However, I'm noticing at this very moment, while using a mouse there's very little (if any) movement in the bottom of the wrist that is resting on the desk. In addition, if I need to reposition the location of the mouse, I lift my wrist in the air before moving rather than sliding.

Who knows, maybe that has nothing to do with it ;)

Btw, this weekend I was playing some Soul Caliber 4 with a friend. It was fun, but my hands definitely seem to get more sore from these button-mashers with a controller versus the typical PC games I play.

I've had a callus on my right wrist for about two years now, but this is due to constant computer use and the way I write in school and such.

Again, why are you lurking around the PC Games forum then? As well, enjoy your gamer thumb as you will find that you can get problems from extended controller use as well.

I was starting to get one on my mouse (right) wrist. But I went out and got one of those gel support mouse pads and have been golden ever since. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

It's called an informatic callus, and yes I have very big ones, also I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, but what can I do? Apart from gaming I'm a software engineer, so there's no way I get away from the computer.

I got worried when I started getting tingling feelings in my right hand so I started using my left hand to use the mouse at work. It was akward at first but now I'm pretty good at it and can preserve my strong hand for the stuff that matters. :)

whats your point?? this is a pc gaming forum so buzz out. And for goodness sake please proof read before you submit your post. whats "lye". Console gamers are getting dumber than i thought lol. At least pc gaming can get you a career in the I.T world where consoles do not. which will result Big $$$ and PC gaming is not expensive if this is your career of choice. So run along kiddies and play your Halo 3 on your console.

Nicely done, good sir.

That can be easily defeated by having a lan party instead of sharing the same tv (LAME):P Furthermore Laptops have become poweful enough to do this at a much convinient level =) So lets not go there about socializing because its not even comparable.

So who needs couple of friends coming over to your house which is crowded and very limited where you can have a laptop lan party in the school cafeteria and making new friends in the process =)

My comment was in regards to him riling up all the PC fangirls. I barely even read his actual post.
