I still find it hilarious that 3D Realms used 12 years on the game only to be closed down, then in swoops Gearbox and potentially finish it in two, maybe tree, years.

Nevertheless, it's still hilarious and somewhat tragic, especially since they basically scraped it and strarted from scratch about 3 times over 12 years.

Will this mean that 3D realms will earn a share of the profit, or is this rightfully and lawfully all of Gearbox's property now? I've been out of the loop concerning Duke's news.

3d realms still gets a cut but they only get like 1/3-1/2 of it as opposed to before when they would get all of it

Read some stories and interviews... Your comment is horribly misinformed.

12 years is a huge exaggeration. I can almost say it's extreme. It's much less than that. Much less.

It features stuff seen in the 1998 version though.

It's not an exaggeration at all. Development started in 1997.

You're right. I should have been more specific. What I meant was, I don't think they actually spent every second of those 12 years, developing this game. I'm sure there were points in development cycle that were "on and off." So in actuality, the time they actually spent to prepare and develop the game was considerably less.

Still 13 years is a lot, by any standards, even if at some point they stopped the development, they changed the engine (they made 3 engines iirc, going from - current standards -, bad, good, great looking, changed quite a few themes and went in different directions with it).

Something like Blizz and Diablo 3 (except the engine part), but they can afford to take their time to make a great game :P.

Can we agree then, that Duke set the record for longest development time frame? :P

I've got this feeling that Bulletstorm will end up being the better game. I don't know if it's a bad or a good feeling.

Anyway it's an awesome year for FPS fans.

Sure because it's still breaking records, until they actually release it.

Last time they announced and organised an interview, a few months after, the game got canned and the developer had severe financial problems. One thing's for sure, even if hundreds of devs go under, the gaming world will never put the Duke to sleep.

It's a great contender. Epic and People Can Fly will definitely "bring it" this year.
