I haven't seen one meaningful post from you in a long time.
I need to sort myself out.
Nothing 'kill' WoW, just as nothing has 'killed' EQ, but hopefully SW:ToR becomes proper competition, unlike Rift. Also, it's the only MMO that I found explicitly enjoyable (during beta) and the only enjoyable mmo to level in ever. Rift(beta) held me for ~1h before I decided it was really a low quality WoW wannabe.
I generally don't like calling games clones though, HL could be called a Quake clone, but no one would dare say that, same engine, same core mechanics, completely different execution.
Guys after playing the SWToR weekend beta this last week, I have to say that while SWToR feels very much like another WoW clone as did RIFT, I have to wonder how many long time WoW players will leave it in favor of exploring a new game within the StarWars universe. With all of the expansions that WoW has seen, I can only imaging what SWToR will get. The StarWars universe is simply huge and I personally see this game really and truely being the "next WoW" and not just some copycat!! ShoTTyMcNaDeS
i so told this in these forums but people were no, TOR is not a wow clone it has da voice acting! lol fanboys, it probably will die in 6 month or a year. So no, its no threat to wow.

Wow doesn't have any story presentation, it's horribly inconsistent with it's pacing... By the reasoning that you're using, Deus Ex is an Elder Scrolls clone, they share a ton of mechanics, just the execution is very different. Or HL is a Quake clone.this "wow clone" term needs to die more than WoW does. It's thrown around too easily[QUOTE="wis3boi"][QUOTE="Krelian-co"]

WoW ripped everything from everquest...your point? Rift ripped everything from WoW and warhammer, your point again? Take what's good in past games and improve on them. TOR does this very well[QUOTE="Krelian-co"]

ShoTTyMcNaDeSWell, thats excatly what was said about the first game, but again of course wow wont suffer, besides it is possible to play two games.
[QUOTE="JohnF111"]Hard to tell, you're asking us if TOR is a WoW killer, nothing is a wow killer it will take many multiple games of exceptional quality to bring down WoW, not because they are better but because millions are far too heavily invested in WoW to simply jumpt ship to something slightly better. For me i'd definitely stop WoW if i had only played maybe 6 months of WoW and gotten to about level 70 or somewhat that area. If i had many characters of level 85 with great gear and lots of friends then not much would tear me away.IxX3xil3d0n3XxI
Not true. I was playing for 4yrs straight. 9 lvl80s, full guild of friends I did everything with. While I had fun over the years, I quit back in February. It wasnt the same game anymore. I am eagerly awaiting SW and GW2. I cant see WoW doing well at the end of 2012.
Hey i quit about February too! I just didn't like the newer content so i stopped playing, Blizzard say it themselves when a new expansion comes out the dead accounts spring back to life at least for a while.Exactly. I was mostly referring to people who are still actively involved in WoW and not people who have already quit.
I think TOR will take some subscribers away from WoW, maybe 2 million. WoW will die through a combination of competing games as well as time. I'm not as sure as other people about Titan replacing WoW. They haven't said much about it.Titan could even be cancelled one day.
Not sure about Diablo 3 competing with WoW either. It doesn't have a subscription fee, so people can play both if they want. It might compete with time, but Diablo 3 has much less content and variety than an MMO, no content patches either.

like my professors said in college "if you cant provide evidence, dont argue." Show us what is a direct copy paste, dont just tell.I think WoW will slowly decrease in popularity because people will grow tired, as what happens with all games.

So you think an mmo made by Bioware in the Star wars universe, that has broken EA's pre-order records and has generally been recieved very well through the testing process is going to flop in 6 months to a year?
I don't think it will kill WoW, and I don't think it will ever hold 8-10 million subscribers, heck it doesn't have to, to be successful, but I do politely but strongly disagree with your blind assesment.
I don't see another game really killing WoW outright. I just see people getting sick of the game to point where a they don't actually resubscribe after several months or so off. Personally I had times where I would be burnt out and take time off and then get that jones and come back and play another stint. I haven't had that urge though since right after Wrath of the Lich King launched, and definately don't see myself coming back for more. Eventually this will happen with most people, not because another game comes out and magically slays WoW.

you said it yourself, it has many preorders because its bioware, and star wars, when people realize they went the easy way they will get bored like so many wow clones before, people are bored of wow even if it was the top mmorpg of all this time, to be succesful there needs to be something new which swtor is not by a long shot. im not saying its bad, is just more of the same
SWTOR will hurt WoW for sure and probably for a good while. WoW will never be what it was...it's had it's day.
WoW is old now and SWTOR is a "new" game that a lot of players will move over to. Not because it's better than WoW but because people have been playing WoW for 6 or 7 years now.
I am looking forward to TOR and I played WoW a lot over the last 6 or so years.
That'd be good an valid if it weren't for EQ 7 years ago... pretty sure WoW was the 'EQ' clone and everyone was going to be bored of that playstyle. It's like saying people will get bored of shooters... Different execution of the same core mechanics is enough to keep people playing it.you said it yourself, it has many preorders because its bioware, and star wars, when people realize they went the easy way they will get bored like so many wow clones before, people are bored of wow even if it was the top mmorpg of all this time, to be succesful there needs to be something new which swtor is not by a long shot. im not saying its bad, is just more of the same

wow was the first big mmorpg, people didnt play much mmorpgs back then. To me is very wowish, only time will tell if thats good or bad, just look the trend of wow clones out there.

I would argue that the leap from EQ to WoW is bigger than the step from WoW to SWTOR. WoW had a much bigger mass appeal. While there are a few new things about SWTOR, I doubt they will mean anything after a month or 2 has passed. People will be done with the "personal" story, the new setting will have worn off and the game will scream same old same old. And already now I know plenty of people who just skipped the voice overs in the beta...
I was one of them (I did read the skim the text though).

A lot of gamers skip dialogue and cutscenes. So for it to be in an MMO, I bet they'll skip it even more. It's pretty sad though.I believe ToR will be the first to actually carve out a decent market share for itself.. the size being in question. The others before it only got a sliver that turned to crums in a month. GW2 will probably do this as well and you'll have the big 3 instead of the big 1. That's my best guess.
WoW will end when Titan releases. The casuals and blizzard fanatics don't know of other MMOs. Correction. They don't care to TRY other MMOs, and even if they do, they go in thinking it will be worse. Anyway. A large chunk of casuals are already leaving WoW, but not because of SWTOR, but because the whole theme-park, carebear, protected easy casual MMO model has gotten old and stale and overused. Here's hoping to a future with more sandbox MMOs, based around clan warfare with no lolinstances and stupid faction or battleground only PvP restrictions!
although i dont consider myself a casual gamer, i do when it comes to WoW...i just cant get into it enough to become addicted like all the rest, yes, WoW is good, but people are leaving because its so pricey, in my opinion WoW should be worth $7.50/mo. topsWoW will end when Titan releases. A large chunk? how can you then explain that only 800k has been lost and mainly lost in china? It sounds more like you just dont like WoW and well who gives a rats butt, Wow has over 10million steady paying subscribers and will still be around when Titan comes out.
