Right now I have a p4 3.2ghz, 7600gt, ddr 1gb ram and a good set of HDD. I recently purcased the 226bw and am having trouble playing games at its native res of 1680x1050.

I work hard and am a bit poor but have managed to scrape together 800 aussie dollars.

And so i plan on getting this as well as a new case. http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index.php?redir=http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/show_image_products.php?input[category_id]=431

Will the E6600, 2 GB ram and my 7600gt combo be enough to run my games at 1680 reso? Will there even be a worthy performance increase?

Yup, i jumped to this res. and sold my 7600gt for a 7950gt. I think you should jump to a X1950XT/7950gt or 8800GTS.

Ultimately, it's the videocard that allows you to have good framerates at higher resolutions. A new CPU will only help so much.

For 7600 is not bottleneking but it will if you get 8800GTS for e.g.

While your processor isn't very good, I can guarantee you that it is your graphics card that is the problem. Simple fact is, you need a better graphics card to run games at 1680x1050, unless you are not using AA and running at low settings.

would it be good to drop an 8800gts in there now and get the other upgrade later? would it be that much of an improvement? or should i wait for the next gen to come out?
