As you know, Skyrim comes with this 3D zoomable map with realtime weather effects, etc. Now given that Skyrim is a MEDIEVAL fantasy RPG, I can only bleive your hero will need a Smart Phone with Google Earth on it!

I am hoping and preying that we get a flat, ink drawn map mod as soon as possible, as while this map is technically brilliant it is totally unrealitic and unimmersive for the game!

Bethesda have spent 3 years and 10's of millions of Dollars to bring us a totally immersive RPG. We know this becuase they have told us many times over the past three months or so. And yet here we are with a 21st century map, that your character is supposed to be pulling out of his back pack to see where he is and where his going!

We are told of the numbers of different flowers and plants, and how butterflies and dragonflies were added all in the name of creating a realistic immersive MEDIEVAL fantasy world, and yet here we have our character with some sort of I-Phone in his backpack, with his +5 Axe and bow!

I can just about live with the Fallout 4, out-of-place, futuristic black vertical bars (although again, I hope for a mod!), but this 3D zoomable map for a medieval fantasy RPG is beyond me!

Everytime I look at it, i'd picture my Nord or Imperial pulling a Smart Phone out of his backpack and giving Google Earth a qucik check to see if they are on the right track for that MEDIEVAL Fort!

Well you see, early on your character gets this magical orb-map, that gives him clear vision of places around the world.

Contrary to popular belief, the key word here actually is 'fantasy'.

If I nitpicked every little bit of video game logic I could write a novel for each game. Also check out the Wikipedia article on Suspension of Disbelief.

I admit I prefer an ink map but I've never imagined 3d map as an i-phone application. I mean, it's a fantasy game. That would be like imagining burning hands spell in D&D as using flamethrowers.

His backpack that also contains dozens of potions and swords and suits of armour. It's a video game, all they're trying to do is make the experience better.

You're totally right TC that map is way too unrealistic. They really need to reground themselves into reality. However, I think the bigger problem is the dragons! I mean come on now how unrealistic can you get!

The map looks pretty awesome, im glad they're trying the 3d map! So it's fine to have a hand drawn map but still have a HUD? That doesn't ruin your immersion? If it were such a big deal then having anything that ruins immersion must be a game killer. I feel sorry for you OP, I really do...

I say leave the new map, my computer is going to eat it for breakfast!

Yea, because shooting fire/ice out of your fingertips and killing dragons is so realistic!

Between shooting fireballs and summoning minions from thin air, I'm pretty sure a magic map won't seem out of place.

Well based on the replies,i'll shut up. But when theiir are computer sounds when opening the menu and more computer type sounds when opening the invenotry and when looking at the star/skills map you get a techno beat, don't come to me!

And of course, everything mentioned, like Dragon's and Spells are based on a fantasy REALISM. The Dragon doesn;t fly without wings, you need to collect flowers and muchrooms to make potions, you catch fish etc and cook them. So while fantasy, reality is put into every nook and cranny within that fantasy - except the map, which has no "reality" to it at all. If it wasn't allabout the reality of the fantasy, why does Bethesda go on and on about the "real" foxes and bears and deer and the 100 different flowers and mushrooms and the 30 different types of "real" fish, and how NPC's reacte "realistically" and how wolves chase deer "realitsically".....

There is no bounds to fantasy "REALISM". So the map is grounded in "reality" (fantasy reality) and that is magic makes it so.

Carrying 15 full length swords is unrealistic too. Not "Fantasy Realism"

EDIT:Spelling

Suspension of disbelief and immersion aren't necessarily the same thing ;)
