World of Warcraft : The Burning Crusade is known throughout gamers of all walks of life. Boasting over 8 million people the world over, Blizzard seems to be an unstoppable force (pun intended) in this hit MMORPG. After playing the original WoW for a year, leveling two characters to the maximum level of 60, when i heard of the first expansion pack i got excited. really excited. Over the next three months i seemed to be glued to my computer screen wanting to see more from TBC. Any news was good news. After a long wait here it finally is, World of Warcraft : The Burning Crusade. Assuming the best, i popped it into my drive and began the long quest of installation. A few (thousand) clicks later and i was at the boot screen.

Now here i sit, a month later, two level 70s and completely and utterly bored with the game. TBC may have its perks whilst leveling, and yes, it took complete control of my life for the two weeks it took me to level to 70. How could i get bored with the most highly anticipated MMO game out there? Re-playability, and the simple fact that there is too much to do. After investing all of my time into getting two characters to 70, just thinking about raiding that sweet sweet dungeon was enough motivation. When i finally reached level 70, i lept onto the trade channel, because everyone knows how blizzard ruined it with the LFG button, and quickly exclaimed 'LFG....' ... i was so overwhelmed with the amount of endgame content, only problem was that i had run each of those non-heroic dungeons 200 times with my guild. Who was i kidding, i didn't want to run a 'special heroic' version of a previous dungeon. That, to me, was like going back at level 50 and doing an upgraded version of the deadmines. Its really too bad, up until level 70 blizzard had the right idea, but i'm sorry, making me pay 15 dollars monthly for the SAME dungeons i had just run for the last month. So one week later, i cancelled my account. Its been four weeks since i last thought about that game. Yes i was addicted, and no, not anymore. I hope they don't mess up Warhammer with expansion packs.

My question to all of you on the Gamespot PC games forum, even if you haven't played WoW... Have you ever experienced the letdown of a game that you had high hopes for?

The game gives you WAAAAY more playability than almost all other games. You spend time playing the game, exploring, doing the quests as a new player, you see why the game is so highly acclaimed. When you finally get to level 70, that has been weeks and weeks of playtime you have had.

If you enjoyed playing 1-70 so much as most people say on these forums, why not just make a new character. There's nine classes.

Or just stop complaining and go play another MMO, fell free, there's plenty of others out there, just don't expect it to be much different in its mechanics. I never got why people post threads about WoW and point out 'flaws' that are not game specific, but specific to the entire genre.

I don't believe there is another MMO out there right now that makes you return to do the same dungeons on a slightly higher difficulty setting. Don't you ever feel as though blizzard left WoW for SCII and diablo 3? i mean they've pretty much ruined all the lore and class balance through repeated patching. try being any class vs. a lock or shadow priest. WoW makes you return to dungeons? So an inanimate object makes you do things? I don't think it was addiction at all.

The class balancing as you say, has never, ever, in all the days the game has been out, been balanced in PvP.

As for Warlock, I thought they were too powerful too with my Druid, but I actually went and bought a Warlock and I found out it's not as easy as I thought. The PvP is based on Class X is weaker against Class Y, but that never means you can't beat Class Y with Class X. The PvP is totally based around team play, you see that in every single BG you go into, if your team doesn't work together you will lose.

It sounds as if you trying to hate the game and finding the urge to get rid of it like addiction to cigarettes. You can always recover your characters along with installing wow from the website for free and recovering your BC key.LOL you gonna return to WOW I bet you, you know you cant last long I bet you bleeding from the mouth banging your head across the keyboard with shaky sweaty hands and feel urgent to wear the WOW t-shirt you threw under the bed.

World of Warcraft will be obsolete when Warhammer rolls around. Hands down. Why do you think Blizzard's thinking about making another expansion (I hear the level cap will be raised to 80. What can those idiots possibly do to keep their players with them? OMG WE GET THE EXPERIENCE OF GRINDING TO 80, THEN GRINDING FOR 8 MONTHS TRYING TO GET UBER END-GAME PVP GEAR, and/or instance-raiding. We all know how fun instance-raiding is)?

Anyway, Blizzard did do well with their game. But they don't listen to their community, therefore most people will leave for Warhammer.

After that, it will be Warhammer Online VS. Warhammer 40k Online (if they ever make that 40k MMORPG).

Warhammer is a World of Warcraft clone. It fails to take risks, and it fails to be interesting. And Chris, you should have sold your account. You could be building a new PC with the money you'd get from it.

EDIT: It's funny to see Unreal fall to the same fate as Gambone. So addicted to a huge timesink. A sad way to see Gamespotters "go".

I logged 350 hours into WoW... and I'm almost tempted to go back... but I'm fighting the urge. Big letdown for me was Gears of War. That game was glorified hide-and-seek... maybe I'll give it another chance when it comes to PC, though ;)

This is the nature of all MMO's. When this happens it just means that its time to move on. Try a different game. I highly recommend EQ2 even though I despise Sony to no end. It is a great MMO. SWG is still running too i believe but many say that Sony ruined that game as well. If you dont mind dated graphics you can also try EQ which offers the most content of any MMO to date. There is also AC1 & 2, & UO which you can play for free if you want to try it out and others as well.

I too quit for roughly the same reasons. I want something new, I've cleared MC, BWL, Naxx, and when my guild started with karazhan I simply couldn't take it anymore. Its the same pointless grind to replace the gear you got from the previous dungeon...over...and over...and over...

Either way after getting my warrior to 70 in about a week and a half and then jumping into raiding just reminded me how repetitive the game really is.

Although there is hope for the MMOer, Hellgate london (kinda of an MMO), Age of Conan, and Warhammer Online all look promising.

Any MMO that doesn't require you to grind the same creatures for Gnoll Paws or start a 25-man raid to kill Hogger wins my vote.

I don't think you've ready up or watched any of the FAQs/Podcasts. There are plenty of new ideas they are implementing. Granted I don't think it's a game that will revolutionize MMO's, but it does try to improve on existing game concepts.

BTW that link was f-ing hilarious. Being a parent, there's times where you don't negotiate or try to explain. After 1 minute of that kind of behavior Iwould have smashed the computer.

well my opinion is that Blizzard dosen`t lisen to us smallr players in wow we nearly never get anything yes it got better with TBC but still blizz should focus more on casual playing not all that hardcore stuff that unforunatly drives some people over the edge. I myself play wow about 2-3 hours a day and I can do lots on in that short amount of time like do some q and level some alts but instancing bah boring and when Iam in the instance only pally and rogue stuff drop so I gave up instancing and focused on q and exploring and ofcourse alts.

And I can say that I are content but I would like to see some more content for casuals like class spesific sets and so on. But anyway every multiplayer online has endless grinding or instamcing etc and bad stuff happens and we get an anti (name of the game) crusade and thousands of posts about how much the game suck and so on well thats life so now il shut up and play some good old diablo 8)

The main point is, you'll always get tired of a video game after you've played it enough. NO GAME is addictive or fun enough to play forever. Eventually, something about it will turn you off or it will be outdated or get a sequel, and you'll just stop. It doesn't make it a bad game, it's just lost it's appeal to you. That's why I quit RuneScape.

Nah, just kidding. That game sucks.

sorry to disappoint you, i have thrown away the DVD, uninstalled the game and deleted both my characters. I have no urge whatsoever to return.

Hw come your character is still shown on the Armory?

Mine still shows in the armory and I quit the game months ago, they must pull all names from their character database, active or otherwise. Since they don't delete characters (in hopes that people'll come back) your character will always be there in the armory no matter when you quit.

Someone from my guild quit a few days ago. Deleted their character, no sign on armory.

Yeah I haven't played as much as you seem to have but I'm WoW-ed out. I have a lvl 70 character and just haven't been able to muster the energy/willpower/whatever to do it all over again.

lol, u wasted time playing WoW sux2bu. Be a man and sell your account. Infact, I've sold my account, called it back, and sold it again. I've made 500 dollars through WoW. GodLovesDead

How did you make $500 when you had to pay for all those monthly subscribtions unless you got to lvl 70 in a month or 2 which if you did you have no life

How can you call a game that you got two characters to level 70, a letdown... and do it with a straight face?

Johnny_Rock

its Because he played the game and reached lvl 70 twice that hehas a god given right to complain about it and call it whatever he wants.

played for 4 months, got a undead lvl 47 warlock and then i quit. coz the reason y i even bothered buying wow was for the stroy. but then it hit me that wow will never have a story. blizzard are just trying to make money and money. they have turned complete capitalist now. I still think blizzard's only mistake was wow. i mean they should have stopped making patches and started concentrating on the basis of warcraft, storyand made a warcraft 4 or sumthing.i dont hate wow as a game but i hate wow for wat it makes u do. it will make u get so addicted that u just cant stop playing coz there is always that 1 one thing u want. peole dont play wow coz its warcraft but they play coz its popular and coz its addictive. yes the reasony people buy wow isbcoz they THINK its warcraft but its just another mmorpg with thewarcraft theme. LOTR or Warhammer are just likewow but with different themes and just some monor differences. For some people wow is like the best game ever made but i have no problem with that coz its a point of view.

I stopped playing wow for over a year now. and i have started playing guild warsnow cozi like it. i know that there arent8 million players in it but to me its not a big deal. and as far as the fall of wow is concerned i completely disagree that wow will ever fail. if it fails it will be coz of blizzard but not the players.

That game is nothing but an endless grind. The true joy of it comes from just plain having fun. The problem is that to get the uber gear takes to long and is too difficult. The community is immature. Thirdly it went to PVE instead of PVP. Blizzard has made a great PVE game, when Warcraft is a PVP game.

I feel that the major reason the endgame in WoW is somewhat broken is due to the "gear achievement" mentality. Once you get to 70, the game no longer is "I think I'll get on and play a little bit", it becomes a regimented schedule based effort- PvP and PvE alike. As far as achievement goes, Arenas and Raiding quickly become the only things (after 5 mans) that can supply you with that sense of achievement gained while leveling. The problem? These activities require much preplanned thought and effort, along with coordination with up to 25 people or more as they all try to fit WoW into their schedules. Not only must you take into consideration your own schedule, but those 25 other people's schedules as well. Arena teams are much easier to manage than raid groups, but it's not a stretch to say that the arena based gameplay quickly becomes stale. All of this, and for what? A shiny little piece of gear that you need in order to keep up with the competition from those who barely manage to scramble together their raid groups/arena teams as well. Gear is very much unlike the fun abilities gained from leveling.

Short and simple: The endgame is a major chore, even in comparison to grinding.

The simple fact is that WoW is not a pick up and play game. You cannot play for 1 hour total and have alot of fun. You have to start at lvl 1 and work your way up to things that you might find fun. People buy a game to have fun. So to have fun they spend hours and hours of grinding so they can finnaly do the things they want and have good enough gear to be good at it. The formula makes for quite addictive gameplay. I sincerly hope warhammer will not be a WoW clone. Im going to try it but if it really is just like WoW, I wont be playing it for long. Someone just needs to make a multiplayer elder scrolls, end of problem.

I have been playing WoW for over a week and I must admit I am bored. I have a leveled to 24 and I can't find any motivation to play anymore. The game has just got extremely boring for me. Even playing with friends doesn't help. I'm not sure how some people get so addicted to WoW. I guess it just isn't for me.

It was fun while it lasted.

/played indicates over 2 days playtime. I guess thats worth my 20$ investment.

I don't think you've ready up or watched any of the FAQs/Podcasts. There are plenty of new ideas they are implementing. Granted I don't think it's a game that will revolutionize MMO's, but it does try to improve on existing game concepts.

I don't read FAQs, I don't even know what a Podcast is. But enlighten me, what new ideas will they be implementing?
