It says "The products and services that we make avaiable on the Websites may be downloaded or accessed for at least one year after you have completed your purchase."

At least one year. That key phrase basically means "after one year we can stop hosting your purchase and you'll be forced to buy another copy." This is the service they are going to try to push Battlefield 3 and all other upcoming EA games through. Already they are pulling games off of Steam.

The bottom line is this is absolutly unacceptable. EA is doing everything it possibly can to kill it's reputation with this whole Battlefield 3 thing. The preorder, exclusive DLC, now this Origins crap. Just because they were a major hit at E3 and can contend against Activision they think they can get away with all of this stuff. Well I'm seriously thinking of skipping BF3 now if I have to put up with this kind of customer service.

They had this with Origins predecessor EA's store, you could use the game for up to one year or if you paid extra I believe it was 3 years. It's why I've used EA's store once and never again. These time limits on downloading your game are complete BS.

seriously? they can get rid of your copy of the game after a year.... surely that's illegal if you have paid for it.

That looks like a copy/paste of their old EADM service ToS - they changed it to be unlimited [I still have access to download Hellgate: London from their DL service]. I am guessing they didn't bother modifying the ToS [I know they didn't when they changed the EADLM service to be unlimited rather than 1 year]. Mostly the ToS is just covering their butts - I would be shocked if EA kept with the 1 year limit as they would be the only DDL service to have a time limit [for the big places at least, I don't know if any small time DDL services have time limits or not]

Preventing gamers from playing a game they purchased after a year would be murder for them. EA may be trying to create a monopoly in gaming, but they aren't that stupid. Don't get me wrong, I hope they burn in a fiery hell, but Origins won't be the reason.

EA Store went the longest time only allowing you to download a game for a year unless you bought the $15 3 year package. The only reason they stopped that nonsense was because no one in their right mind would shop with them when every other DD never put on such restriction. With them looking to sell their products exclusively through Origins who the hell knows what their plan will be there.

I hope you're wrong. BF3 would be the perfect game for them get away with murder. Clicking on the "I accept" button never used to be so dramatic.

That's stupid... I defended Origin.I think it's hypocritical people to complain about exclusivity of EA games to their proprietary digital platform, when Valve and Blizzard are doing the same thing. I don't mind using multiple digital platforms. I like my money going to the right place. With EA being the biggest player, and Valve taking 30% of each game they sell on steam...Well it adds up. To tens of millions of dollars. But this is over the line. You can't really defend this. I don't know what they're thinking...

Is it that hard to buy a retail copy of BF3? You'll have a DD backup anyway, that's how EA Store and Origin always worked. And you can backup the DD installer too.

I'm not going to abandon a service because of what may happen. As if they're going to stop the TOR players from downloading the game after one year...

They did it with the EA store for years so the mindset is certainly there.

Why are people using this stupid argument? Can't you see the idiocy in this statement?

Of-frigging-course Valve only has their games on Steam, they were the first god damned people to create a digital platform and thus they want to promote it. The difference between EA and Valve is that Valve has games from any and every company under the sun.

Meh I'll still be physically buying it cause I like adding cases to the collection. I don't use credit cards online because anyone can access it and get away without a single tell tale.
Yet though this is a horrible thing to be doing to consumers who use DD.

The other BIG difference is Valve is a developer that puts out maybe 1 or 2 games a year while EA is a publisher with MANY different developers under their wing. I also wonder if the people supporting this will feel differently when every publisher follows suit (this is a monkey-see-monkey-do industry after all) and we need 15 different apps, with unique user-names and passwords, to simply play our games. Yep, that sounds great -- doesn't it?

That is indeed awful. Certainly does not seem consumer-friendly at all. Especially the excerpt that Remmib linked.

Steam's ToS says the same thing:

B. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.

NEITHER VALVE, ITS LICENSORS, NOR THEIR AFFILIATES SHALL BE LIABLE IN ANY WAY FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND RESULTING FROM THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE STEAM, YOUR ACCOUNT, YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS AND THE SOFTWARE INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, LOSS OF GOODWILL, WORK STOPPAGE, COMPUTER FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION, OR ANY AND ALL OTHER COMMERCIAL DAMAGES OR LOSSES. IN NO EVENT WILL VALVE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, OR ANY OTHER DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN ANY WAY CONNECTED WITH STEAM, THE SOFTWARE, MERCHANDISE THAT YOU ACQUIRE VIA STEAM, ANY INFORMATION AVAILABLE IN CONNECTION THEREWITH, OR THE DELAY OR INABILITY TO USE MERCHANDISE OR ANY INFORMATION, EVEN IN THE EVENT OF FAULT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, BREACH OF CONTRACT, OR BREACH OF VALVE'S WARRANTY AND EVEN IF VALVE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THESE LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS REGARDING DAMAGES APPLY EVEN IF ANY REMEDY FAILS.

I will get bf3 but def not through origins I will get a retail if no steam comes. However all those other random ea games that I buy when there is a deal on steam will not be happening anymore, sorry ea you were trying to get all of my money now you will get none of it.

If I was EA I would make all my games steam activable then competively price them on the ea store. D2d has got much of my service over steam cause they offered better deals on games that i can just activate on steam. This way EA doesnt have to invest in its own service and are essentially selling cd keys and only pay valve a minimal percent for its game being a steam compatible game. But EA wants the whole pie and is approching it in the most greedy douchebag way possible

I think retail copies might require activation via Origin. Plus, it's a multiplayer game with a one-time use key.

They existed at first, but the limits were removed years ago (withing the first year since it was created actually, from what I heard, that's a lot of years), the only limit is the 24 month thing, but seriously, people so "hurt" by this are lazy enough not to log in once in 2 years on Origin? because that's all it takes to "reset" it.

Er, that's what I said. They existed before but they removed it several years ago, your claim was that never such a thing existed.

So is BF3 only available through Origin, or will there be retail copies as well? Because if the only way to get the game legally is through Origin then I think this is going to be one of the very few times (perhaps the only time) where piracy could actually be justified.gameguy6700

There will be retail copies.

God help us if it requires activation through Origin. If so, I won't be buying and I am a die hard BF vet.

There is one point i don't understand it How is possible that i pay full price for the game digitally on origin (BF3 for example) and i own it for a year ? is not the game mine now it is my right to own the game forever ?? ok they can limit download number but make me pay $60 for a game to play one year then i pay another dollars to play it again , its like participate 1 year with 60 bucks it really sucks , and i hope they fail

I doubt EA would do that in practice. Strongly. The ToS is just to cover their asses in case something serious happens.

It'll most likely require that ;). It's a good thing there's always something good within all this frustration, shattered dreams, there'll always be something to be disappointed about behind what you're disappointed without having any reasons.

I have to say I'm not concerned,

I've had eadm (now origins) with some of ea's titles for awhile, I've had some of ea's titles via retail thus using their activation system for awhile, I've had an ea account for awhile, and I've had no issues with dealing with ea customer support and getting them to honor our agreements for awhile,

I also have copies of my reciepts and correspondence (email) back and forth for awhile, if they wish to argue the english language in fine print....

My suggestion is keep your receipts and correspondence via email and deactivate the game when uninstalling, (some of the newer titles give a reminder message when unistalling) whether purchase is retail or online.

Except it never happened at all. They were there, but you'll find out that there are no sources to confirm games actually disappearing and that was when EADM was just launched, the games being available for just one year limitation was removed ages ago and while it was actually there, no game went missing for absolutely anybody. All there is on the entire internet is exactly what we have in this thread whining because "it says so", without any reason or evidence for it. It will not happen, it's not worth mentioning, it's that simple.

So we're just renting games then but paying full price, not only that but we're renting our accounts too? If EA forces this crap on BF3 then count that as a lost sale, along with all of their other games. Well I guess Skyrim became my #1 looking forward to game then.

I guess you missed the part where Valve pays developers to have steam integration, so you have to install steam and use the game exclusively trough steam.

New Vegas, Civilization V, just a few of the games that forced me to do this even though I didn't want to.

Just because Valve was the first, it doesn't exempt them from anything. Steam is not my preffered digital platform of choice, but it's being forced on me by Valve games and other select titles. No better than what Origin is doing.

Will I have to register BF3 with Origins with a retail copy?

If no - Lulz don't care. Don't give them money and they won't force it

If so - Well its already played for. Not gonna buy an EA game if its forced.

We'll see how its really going to be, if retail is affected by this too i might not buy it, otherwise i won't care because its still better than playing cod.

Most likely it'll just use an EA Account, which means you'll automatically have a copy on Origin. The EA Account is the glue that holds together all those game specific services, like Autolog, Cerberus and whatever else is there.

And even if you have to activate it with Origin - what's the problem? The program doesn't even have to run in the background when you start or play the game.

[QUOTE="Remmib"]

[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"]That's stupid... I don't know what they're thinking...GeneralShowzer

I honestly prefer to have Steam integrated games. This is because I know that if it is integrated with Steam the game will work with very little to no problems as well as having a dedicated forum to help me if I ever do have problems, automatic updates, community etc. Yes, Steam is a form of DRM, But i much prefer it to the other stuff that has been coming out recently. Its a necessary evil and I'll be putting my money with the people who have proven to me that they will not screw me over.

I heard about Steam having the same statement, but Steam will provide a patch for the games we are going to "lose". Don't have the page, right now but at least they said that. This Origins program looked fishy from the start, but will probably buy Battlefield 3 from retail in case I lose the game.
This is utter crap, really.
