SimCity 2000 was the first game I ever played of any kind. As for the genres which I like nowadays, in chronological order: My first RTS of any kind was Fragile Allegiance, which remained my favourite game of all time. My first FPS was Doom 2. My first C&C-style RTS I ever played was Total Annihilation. My first RPG was Diablo.

My first real pc game was Rainbow Six. Then a few years later I got America's Army and it was my first online game. That's what took off my PC gaming. But I played nintendo and super nintendo since I was about 3, so nothing really got me into gaming. I was born into it lol.

First PC game I ever played was:

AD&D: Hillsfar

I might have played a couple before that, but I honestly can't remeber.

Leisure Suit Larry 6

Diablo, Doom, Quake, Blood

"Realms of Arkania - Shadows over Riva" of the Northlandtrilogy pc games

It's hard to remember, but I am certain Larry 6 was my first videogame. The chronological order of the other ones I can't remember except that Shadows over Riva was the last one of that early gaming period. That finally got me into regularly playing & finishing my games :)

What do you mean no space invaders and pacman? Those are real games if I ever saw em, and they are still better in terms of longevity than most of the stuff that is produced today. What is this you don't call anything before 1985 a real game? I don't remember what my first real game was, but it's clearly in your "not real games" category, aka before your time.

Whats the game where you play a worm eating the apples, and every apple you eat your body grows and you need to keep moving around so you dont run into your own body?

Thats the first game I actually remember playing on PC.

LOL let me guess you were born in the 90s so therefore all the classics "aren't games".  I'm sorry but that's pathetic.  No gamer who has any brains would not classify games before the 90s real games.  Just wait until the nintendo people start rhyming off games made pre 90s.  oooh perhaps mario bros to start and that was 1985

That game was great.  Can't think of what it's called these days but back on the commodor 64 they had that game and it was Viper.

Amazing how so many of your first games are so... modern. :P

My first game I ever played was a classic F1 racing game that I have no clue of the name but I've seen references (in images) of it on several retro occations and was on my dad's work-computer back in late 80's. However I don't consider that as my first "real" gaming experience as I was quite young and computers weren't really introduced in my life back then (the circumstances didn't really give me that option). My first real PC experience was actually with an Age of Empires demo back in 97-98 and from then on I was hooked.

My most remembered experience was however with Contra on the good old NES together with my brother in co-op. Was also the first game I ever "finished", wow what an experience.

On consoles, i think it was Duck Hunt and Mario at a friends place, then we got an awesome pc at home (1mb RAM and 30meg HDD :D) and the first on that one would be Dangerous Dave, or maybe alley cat, not sure. Then came LHX, Duke Nukem (the original), Test Drive 2, Pool of radiance, Gunship 2000, Transport Tycoon, etc.

I really  miss those days sometimes. Games are too complicated now, i just want to sit and play the game, not have to read the manual for a half hour before... :)

ok how about i allow a few more games into my "Real Game" catagory...if the games graphics consist of more then 10 pixels i will consider it a real game. o wait!...that still rules out Tetris, pac man, pong ect.

Not that i don't like offending people, because i do...but i was more looking for the games that started some of the great genres and game series and games like space invaders or pacman doesn't really fit into that catagory

I first started playing Donkey Kong Country for super nintendo in kindergarden. My first PC game was MS Combat Flight Simulator 98 back when I was in 1st grade. I also liked playing regular Flight Simulator 98 and crashing into buildings :)

For consoles? It was Super Mario Bros. for the NES.
