Ok , So what are the FUBAR awards? Its Simple. This is not for the worst game you played this year, we already have awards for that. This is for the games that should have been a perfect TEN but because of some issue (story, game bug, price etc) the game was flawed.

So time to let the developers know what they did to their great game to bring it down from a perfect ten!

(Remember this is not to defend a game, this is for anyone to air out gripes that they thought ruined a perfect game)

I'll start,

DEADSPACE: I have been meaning to complain about this one for a while. What a great concept, but the camera seriously flawed the game play. Maybe on the console versions it was ok, but it really screwed up the PC experience. Also there should have been more variety in what you had to do, instead of just fix this dismember that.

Far Cry 2

Could have, and should have been, one of the most amazing games of the year. Incredible sound design, setting, and technical capabilities of the engine all came together perfectly. However, repetitive gameplay, absoluetely dissappointing graphics, bad voice acting, completely unrealistic damage and physics systems for a game based on reality, and a bored story destroyed the game.

Assassin's Creed

What a great idea for a game, original concepts and great graphics. BUT SO REPETITIVE!

Why such simple missions? The possibilities are endless, yet you end up as a pick pocket vigilant half the time.

No to mention the ENDLESS HORSE RIDES!

I second the vote for Far Cry. It just did not use the incredible setting as much as it could have.

I agree, but for different reasons. Personally, I love most of that stuff (okay, the horse rides get a little annoying, but are not that bad).

My main complaint is the numerous, long cut-scenes. I swear... you spend about as much time watching them as playing the game:|. Furthermore, many have the audio and visual out-of-sync :(.

Stalker: Clear Sky - a fantastic idea, the first Stalker was fantastic and in theory this one could only be better. wrong. they did not do nearly enough game testing, that had the basic deseign down, the idea was great, and the mechanics were fantastic. if they had simply spent two or three months testing the game, releasing betas and so forth, it could have been one of the best games of the year, easily. Amazing game, brought way, way down by bugs.

Far Cry 2, it had so much potental and looked like it would have been nothing short of stunning if it had been done right, BUT due to technical problems (crash, after crash after crash), terrible support (complelty ignoring people with major issues), graphics that for the PC should have been much better (dam console port) and a bad damage and physics system (not good at all) all made it a game that wasn't even worth 5/10 IMO.

-

GTA4, if only it had been ported over properly and hadn't included so many extra apps just to make it run, it really took the game down a notch from the console versons when it should have improved instead, it was a game that should have clearly been a 10/10 yet due to due these reasons and others it just wasn't.

Another vote for Spore. I was soooo hyped for the game all the months before release but I couldn't play it for more then 20 min before getting completly bored from its shallow gameplay.

Agreed! Maybe a patch or two would help... but i think this game was just put together in such a sloppy way... it no longer has a chance to be as great as it could have! :(

Far Cry 2. It wasn't bad, but definitely not worth forking money over it. Hugely dissapointing.

Grand Theft Auto IV - Completely agree with Stoner-Pimp I personally have the game up and running decently. However the fact that you need so much stuff installed prior to actually playing the game (Windows Live for example) just made starting up the game a pain in the neck. Also, even though some people are able to play the game with excellent frame rates, no one can argue that the game was a sloppy port, and Rockstar could have done a heck of a lot better.

STALKER Clear Sky

They pretty much removed everything that was good in Shadow of Chernobyl and the game is buggy yet again! Wtf.. The atmosphere is not as good, because there are people literally everywhere so you don't feel isolated anymore and there haven't been anything scary in the game so far, the labs on the original STALKER were some of it's best parts. They added some scripted events like when you lose all your money and inventory, when the army guys shoot a minigun at you no matter how well you sneak and when the goddamn bandits want to rob you everytime they see you - even if you're their friend. The game is much more linear and the guns are inaccurate as hell. Enemies hit you from 10 km and you're lucky if you can hit them at point blank range. You bleed if anything hits you and you need like 5 bandages to stop bleeding. It's horrible... Why did they do this?!:cry:

This. Also, those road checkpoints respawning in Far Cry 2 totally killed it for me. I could deal with everything else, but that, just ugh. Ubisoft broke my crappyness meter.

GTA 4 for the PC is probably should be the winner. However, my vote goes to Mass Effect. For one, I love Bioware games and KOTOR and as a spiritual successor to these games, I had high expectations. ME hands down had a great story and good graphics, but it dropped a few notches down for me for the uninspired character interaction, combat that could have been so much more, and worst of all lame and repetive side mission. Also, one has to point out how short the game is overall. If you just play the main storyline and avoid the stupid side missions, your done in a few hours. I remember KOTOR lasting me for days.

As for the combat, while not totally terrible, I just think the concepts behind it were great but not used properly. It was too easy and the team aspect was not functional. I found the team members to be more of a nuisance than anything with the exception of non-combat tasks.

Anyway, Mass Effect gets my vote. I think it was way overrated. However, it does have a lot of potential with the sequel if they fix these problems.

Edit: I bought Assassins Creed the day it came out and a new PC to handle it. Gave up on it real quick and never finished. I think I actually fell asleep while playing.

another vote for far cry 2 - great idea but everything about it (gunplay, game mechanics, story, graphics) was mediocre (or worse) and it simply wasnt fun to play.

assassins creed was better but again was wasted potential for such a great idea.

double agent (despite being old) deserves a mention too. after chaos theory it should have been something close to stealth perfection but there were a lot of poor game and story decisons that deviated away from the feel of the earlier games in the series and it felt like a big step backwards.

the award should go to ubifor making a mess of so many good ideas

What's wrong with the cameras? It's a third person game so logically, some of your vision has to be impaired by the character model...

Remember, this is not to debate if a game is good or not.....

But to answer your question they move too fast, so when moving Laura around, you get dizzy from the quick camera changes.

Spore. I found it at first fun, then average, then a little more fun, then average again and then interesting before I sat back and thought "This is it?" And Far Cry 2 Now I think it's a fun game, it has a whole heap of good qualities but horrible story, extremely bad physics ( which is odd cause the previous one had better physics) and those damn respawning checkpoints where they shoot at you no matter what. Really brought it down. It could've really been a great game if given a better effort at those places.

Crysis Wars... sigh... They got me all hyped about how it was going to be bigger and better, but there were very small improvements. The smaller maps were probably the best addition, but it still had so much unused potential as a multiplayer game. Needs a squad system, more game types, some customization for your character or weapons.

I want to vote for Assassin's Creed too. I watched the game through the end, and it looked alright. Then I played halfway through it.... It was just too boring to play. I couldn't finish it. Although it could have had a lot to do with seeing it played already. The game still didn't really have enough to hold my interest for that long...
