over 15 million users and counting

really if yer a devloper and don't put yer game on steam yer a stupid dumb***

this is another reason why games like crysis sold like crap(yes it sold over a million but it could do better!) it was onley retail and retail is outdated at this point for PC gameing because I searched everywere for splinter cell 3 in stores but could onlye find it on direct2drive:(

Steam is very active and lots buy their games off of it and PC games like the orange box sold even more then the consles because of steam and retail

I wish future devlopers will use steam its a great feature and its one of the things that makes the PC gameing industry bloom

While I agree with much of this post, why do so many people think there are stores and there is DD, and that's it? There are internet shops where you can buy boxed retail games. Ever heard of Amazon? I buy all my games boxed retail online. Haven't been in a store in years, and I only use DD when it's my only choice. And I have no trouble finding any game I want at a great price.

Chaos Theory is on the Amazon.com marketplace for $10 with shipping.

And Crysis sold poorly becayse of its hardware requirements. No game is going to sell well when only 15% of the gaming community can run it, and then you have to consider how many of those people even want to to begin with, then slice off a percentage who'll pirate it. We're talking 4 or 5% of the PC gaming community who can play Crysis, want to play Crysis and are actually willing to pay for it.

It not being a Steam game had little (though probably something) to do with its sales.

no one likes to buy their games online and wait a couple days or a week

this is why I hate retai stores that have a 1000 consle games

but onley like 20 pc games.

really no ones buying these games if they can't even find them really whats the point. now best buy they do have more but not much compared to consles. everyone thinks PC games are dead but its sad o think that when PC games have been here for years and years and the biggist thing is if you have a computor and you use it to order stuff online, play music, browse the internet, whatch movies, but why not get one for games?

What the above poster said. Amazon.Free shipping on orders over $25. Cheaper than most in-store prices. No driving. Wait a week. I don't mind.

If you buy a game from Steam will it still have Starforce on it ? I realy want to get Sniper Elite but the retail version has Starforce on it so its not an option.

Yeah Crysis was on numerous online stores other than Steam including EA's store, which is crap compared to Steam but still.

I would rather stick with Amazon better than waking up in a few years time to find out Valve went bankrupt (Highly unlikely I know but could happen) and everything I bought through Steam is gone I would rather have the Retail box and disc.

I also have a prefer to have a tangible product as evidence of my purchase, though I'll probably order most games online and skip the hassle of going to stores unless I just want to look at stuff.

As much as I like the idea of Steam, the way it allows both big name and independent developers to sell their games, the problem with Steam is that the games have slight differences from retail.. and lately, issues with patching and incompatibilities make me wary of using Steam for most of my games.

I'm not crazy after all! There ARE problems with Steam! :D I can't play any games on Steam and for a while I bashed it a lot. I found out how to fix it (and found out that I did something really stupid and screwed it up) I need to run system restore. But my sister won't let me because the printer and all this stuff is set up my computer and she doesn't want to do it over again. :| But I had always had problems with Steam while everyone else gos on to say how perfect it is. It creeps me out.
