No. Stay with Firefox. "An international community of security experts is working around the clock to make your web browsing safer. Our team works right from the start to identify and address potential problems before a single line of code is written. It's like having your neighborhood watch led by a group of highly trained ninjas."- Mozilla

Even if chrome was slightly more secure it doesn't compare to Firefox as a whole. Firefox secure enough, combine it with Spybot and it's even better.

Don't think so. Last time I checked it had no adblock and no script type addons. Firefox is most secure with such extensions.

No Google Chrome is indeed the most secure web browser and if you want to go even more secure than that there's Konquer for Ubuntu lol.

I've been using firefox and for general performance I prefer firefox, having used chrome for extended periods of time. Talking from a security point of view, I'd presume firefox is slightly better. Two things I like about chrome are the quick open browser times and the home page remembers you're most viewed and lays it out nicely. THe first isn't relevent to my computer really as it loads firefox fast enough, and the latter firefox has if you click the drop down menu next to the address bar, and I prefer it this way as its less in your face when you open the browser.

What addons would you recommend out of interest? Would they be beneficial to a guy like me, not too much online banking or entering of details. What do these addons do? They add deeper level security, or just increase warnings of untrusted sites?

If you want security, it's FireFox + NoScript. Without NoScript, FF, IE and Chrome are all essentially on the same level when it comes to security. They fall victim to the same PDF and iFrame exploits because they're written to take advantage of non-IE browsers.

Chrome is the safest, it has been proven because each tab is independant from eachother. Meaning if one gets infected, the others are fine. Firefox, they all get screwd over. Chrome also has adblock, and noflash and stuff like that as well, I use them. Chrome is also miles faster.

Also you guys must realize chromium is open source, which is what Chrome is based off of.

I vote Chrome because Google removed all OS privileges from it so its MUCH harder for exploits to affect your OS, to the best of my knowledge FireFox doesent do that....anyway Chrome is just a better browser all around.

So what makes Firefox better then? :/ Chrome is faster and if anything crashes everyhtuing else keeps on working fine, firefox just dies. Also Chrome now has extensions like ad-block.

ive used many browsers before: safari, internet explorer, netscape, firefox.. but id have to say the ones i like the best are firefox... that is until i got google chrome, which to me looks better, and is actually faster..

chrome is more secure from what i hear as well. (though im going thru a linksys router which is a hardware firewall, and im using Nod32, so i think im "secure" enough.

chrome would be my choice.

In my experiences the few time Firefox crashed, when I went to reopen it, I could chose to reopen everything that was open when it crashed, even selecting specifically what to reopen and what not to. Chrome might be faster than Firefox, but I cannot tell the difference. I prefer the feel of Firefox, I tried chrome, heck still have it installed, but it just did not do it for me. Plus Firefox has a walnut theme that I really like, I cannot stand the way the standard browser looks, but that's just me.

If by safety you also mean privacy then I say stay away from chrome. Google is all about user data and using their search engine is already giving away alot of info. All your searches are logged in their servers. Using their browser will just expose you bit more I feel. But thats just me.

Thats why I don't use stuff like build in search bars and stuff. Even firefox google search bar shouldn't be used. Google pays mozilla for every search done through the search bar.

I think Opera maybe the best privacy wise but I am just too addicted to some of the addons of firefox like tab kit, scrapbook, noscript, downloadhelper etc

Can't imagine browsing without them.

About secuirity, I say any browser without noscript type capability has worthless secuirity.

Chrome is still as my default browser because it is faster than firefox and chrome is now using extensions or add-ons just like the firefox but the good thing is google chrome doesn't need to restart the browser once you've installed the add-ons. Firefox is now have a various of themes that you can customize it your browser and put your themes in it. This is much better compared to the older firefox versions.

Uhm, what reason for that sir, you are just using the same program in Linux, infact the Linux version of FireFox is slower than the Windows version. Hence I use Chrome for my otheros needs, much faster. Well not quite as fast as dillo... but what is fast as dillo?

i agree wit Cpt_Enterprise, coz its not necessarily "anonymous". It doesnt have to be anonymous if google wanted to be, and some people just dont want their info bein collected, even if anonymous.....in my opinion, Opera is a great browser, because it has so many features built-in, instead of addons. so as long u have a good firewall & antivirus program u shud be good.....and u can always download sandbox programs........

and if speed matters to u, v10.5 opera is faster than chrome --- http://www.techwaynews.com/2009/12/22/opera-10-5-fastest-browser-to-date/

so it all depends on what u want, coz google does make it "easier for u to browse" but if u do things on the internet that u shouldnt be and dont want to b tracked, then chrome may not be the best for you

Dont forget your ISP knows what sites your going onto.....my goodness what a conspiracy! Google takes anonymous data and gives you THE best search results because it just gives you relevant results due to what you have looked for in the past.

Oh btw there is one thing that is very stupid and chrome, and firefox, I don't think Opera, safari 4, or even IE do this. On Chrome I know where it is, but in the options there is a "show passwords" button. I go there on people's laptops for the lulz. But yeah, that is one thing that is a gaping security hole to me. I mean it's not really a security hole, but I mean in RL it's something to be taken advantage of.

Macs handle this better with Safari 4. They use keychain to make the system remember it, and to view them you must know the root account password. I like that a lot.

I don't know about OSX, but on the Windows browsers they're all stored in plaintext if you know where to look. We talked with one of the Chrome devs about it and his stance was basically 'nobody else actually encrypts the passwords, so we didn't see any need to.'

Yes I realize that. Macs use keystrings. Similar would be say in a distro like Ubuntu uses keyring, but not for the browser unfortunately. Unless one of them intergrated it.

I suggest trying it, its just stupid fast and uses such a small amount of system resources. Also when something crashes everything else keeps on working....man i love Google.

Try the latest beta(not stable or dev) so you can use extensions. It's a nice browser, quick, fast, and secure.

That is not true with privacy. When you download chrome, you have the option to choose to share information. Which I would advise to NOT check.

I dunno, security never has been an issue for me....with firefox.

Security is a myth anyways.
