It's going to be years before releasing.  Diablo 2 was announced 3 years before it launched.  Warcraft 3 was announced 3 years before it launched.  World of Warcraft was announced 3 years before it launched.

Basically, we'll finally be playing Starcraft 2...in 2010

They said they started on it about the same time they finished Warcraft 3, and it's multiplayer is already in a playable state. I think it'll be a little sooner than 3 years.

Considering it took Blizzard 2 years to make Diablo 2 patch 1.10, that means nothing.  "Working on it" for a few years could have been a janitor doodling a stickman on a small note pad.

Do you see how finished the game looks? The guy was playing in the invitational in front of them, no bugs ocurred. The graphics look pretty much finished(even though people dont like them that much).I think what their probably not done with is the SP campaign but the core game is most likely done.

Heh, well they are gameplay videos of it, and it looks quite smooth. I'm guessing they just haven't really done much on zerg/terran as they've mostly shown protoss.

So?  They're likely to completely rebuild the graphics, just like they did with Starcraft 1.  Why was it running so well?  It was on the Warcraft 3 engine :P

Anyone who has seen the years go by and seen Blizzard's development habits knows that it's going to be many years before we ever play this game.  Blizzard is in absolutely no hurry to finish this game.

That is true, but i still wont think that they are going to let this game come out 3 years later. It'll be shorter, but still a long wait for us fans.

Thats good. Blizzard should take their time and make sure it's a worthy sequel to Starcraft.

Even better, I'll have time to save for a decent computer without having to sell my kidney.

Um, I seriously doubt they're going to throw away all that time they spent on the graphics that were shown during the unveiling and start building a new engine from scratch. By the way, as far as I know, blizzard has never shown us complete & comprehensive (terran, protoss, zerg) gameplay videos and released the game 3 years later.

Not sure where I saw it, but the Estimated Release Date is in 2009 said one employee. Uh oh, that'll be a big distracter from college freshman time :)

Based on Blizzard's past history, there is absolutely no reason to believe the game will come out before 2010.

They're still in pre-alpha, so it may take them some time, but I'm guessing it'll probably come out late 2008/early 2009, by then they'll probably revamp the graphics.

I would rather have a delayed game rather then a rushed crappy game..   Blizzard has been successful on their multiple titles including not folding to the public or the publisher to rush their game and cut corners or not properly beta test.

agreed, 2010 is probably about right, it'll probably be penciled in for 2009 for now (just because) and then be delayed at least into 2010

the thing blizzard will be focusing on most is balance, and getting good balance with diverse armies using internal testing/closed betas is very very difficult, many companies put rts games on the shelves with serious balance flaws and let the general gaming public work them out - but blizzard doesn't

that said, it's just educated speculation - there's nothing conclusive to strongly indicate that a pre-2010 release is unlikely

In an article in the June 2007 issue of GFW, Bill Roper stated that "We just didn't have the manpower to create regular, new content back then. [Diablo II's] 1.10 patch took one guy over a hear and a half to build."  If they had only one guy working on it, it doesn't surprise me it took so long.  Blizzard has said that they have a 40 man team working on SC2, now I'm not sure how long they've had everybody on the team, but the fact at what they've shown off so far looks pretty polished, have a playable multiplay right now, have been working on it since 2003, and they have said the game is "very far along" are all very good signs.

Blizzard should take as long as they need it to create a game with the name Starcraft in it. I wont be surprised if it takes longer than 3 years since they have such a big expectation to fill, following up on such a successful title like Starcraft :)

Chances are they'll redo the graphics between now and release just like in the original SC. I dont have much problems with the graphics shown of SC2, the terrans seem a bit plastic like and the siege tank looks awkward, but the lings looks fab :) It might not have mind-blowing... and wallet-blowing graphics, but that just means more ppl will be able to pick it up and play. I hope all this hype brings more people back to Starcraft b-net :)

With Blizzard is you never know when something will happen.  I hope Sc2 will release soon, but i doubt it.  And as far as people going back to b.net, I still play Sc like once or twice a week if not more.

I don't buy Blizzard's "1.10 took so long because one guy was working on it" excuse they gave.  I've seen single individuals create entire total conversions for Diablo 2 in only three to six months.  Blizzard just didn't care about the terrible state Diablo 2 was in during the 1.09 years.  The whole reason the game looks as "finished" as it does is because it's running on the Warcraft 3 engine.  Have a look:

It looks like a simple total conversion.  Just like the second pic.  Those only take a couple of months to make.  Blizzard has obviously worked on SC2 longer, but this gameplay demonstration mean nothing in terms of "it's almost done!!1!".  The game is probably, and most likely, very far away from completion.  Of course Blizzard isn't going to just say "Yeah, we're just getting started...."

It's coming in 2010.  I'm certain of it.

Can i Quote you on that Johnny?

BTW i like the graphics, i was always scared that SC2 would have cartooned graphics like WC3, or that i wouldn't have the look and feel of the original, looks like they are doing a good job.

Remember this game was in development since 2003.  I think they have all the new Zerg and Terran units already, they just need to fix bugs, tweak battle.net and the game, finish the story.  The beta will be in December 2007.  The release date would be in June 2008, and if they do delay it, the latest would be December 2008.

As much as all of us want it, we cannot rush Blizzard.  I wouldn't want to see the Starcraft franchise die because the Starcraft II final product had too many bugs, or wasn't fun.
