Yes, its another CPU question from me.

Right.

Im pretty much set on having a Q6600 Quad 2.4Ghz against the E3500 3.5Ghz Dual Core.

But, there are a few things on my mind.

1. As I see it, I would need a QC for future gaming. However, when it comes to QC operating on games, im not sure how it works. If I buy a game which requires 3Ghz of CPU processing power using only one core, how would the QC help/hinder this, and does the extra core factor come into play?

2. Obviously many people have the opinion that getting the Q6600 is worthless due to there being better & cheaper QC's later when newer games come out, and therefore the E35 is much better for right now.

What are your opinions on which I should buy *The proce difference is non-considerable ATM, as its only £50*

Then there's the Extreme QC, but Im not paying an extra £600 on top of the PC's costs ;)

Thanks.

I have the same dilemma as well. Quad cores aren't very useful in today's games, and the price will probably drop significantly in the future, so I'm leaning on the dual-core's side, but I'm still not sure.

well one of the main reasons i got the Q6600 is not only performance in games, but for multi tasking. I like to have my games, vent, internet, itunes, and a few other programs running all the time. Also, i dual/tri box on world of warcraft and the quad core helps a ton.

1. If the game you are going to play is only optimized for dual core or single core, your quad core will only use two or one respectively. The performance difference between a quad-core and dual-core of their respective family of processors (Core 2, Phenom etc...) would be only clock speed, as their core's are identical, only there are more of them. A benefit of the quad core may be that it has a larger cache. 2. Yes unfortunately everything in the future is always going to be cheaper and faster. This is something you have to consider, most games are only optimized for dual core and I only know of two that use quad core (Supreme Commander it's expansion pack). Right now as I see it, if you're just gaming, the dual core will do you justice. If you do a lot of video editing, you may want to consider the quad, as video encoding is much faster on quad core.

Yeah I agree, if its cheaper than get the dual core for now and upgrade to a quad later unless your doing rendering.

guessing it is a Xeon duel core. Just saying that because I have the E3110 which is the same as the E8400, 45nm core 2 duo 3.0ghz....

but 3.5 ghz must be overclocked from some company (other than intel)

Also, with the cooling abilitites of the Q66, could I not just OC it to around 3Ghz?

1. It won't, but background stuff would probably not cause any hiccups while gaming. I run Folding@Home so a Quad would be my choice, if you only game i would say a highly clocked dual core is the way to go. I'm sure you mean E8500.

Well, I will be using Photoshop and C4D.

So I think the Quad is the best way to go. Also, i found that OC'd it can reach 3.2Ghz, and get a 20FPS lead on an overclocked E85 @ 4Ghz.

So I think its a simple choice now really.
