*spoiler free*

I seized the opportunity to get this game early, which is quite rare for me so I figured I might as well spread some knowledge about it.

Off the bat you notice the game's art style, which I personally enjoy. The graphics aren't the hottest thing out there, (I have all settings cranked up to the max) but the art style, especially the black and white scenery, really makes up for it and creates a good atmosphere. The cut scenes are great, very vivid and descriptive. My main gripe with the graphics is no anti aliasing option (as far as I can see). I normally wouldn't complain, but there seems to be a good amount of jaggies in this game. Apparently the game is also quad core optimized, but that's not something I can personally confirm.

As for the gameplay, its quite enjoyable. Its a bit of a mixed bag, I suppose. It seems that Pandemic has taken many of the elements from Mercenaries 2 and made them even better. The guns sound pretty good, and the gunplay in general is livable. The blood is extremely cheesy, but its no qualm (imo). The cover system functions in a very similar way to that of Mass Effect, simple running up/taking cover. The climbing is really easy to do. One issue I encountered is trying to maneuver a bit, but once you get the hang of it it seems this problem dissipates. The perks are very cool as well and provide a refreshing aspect to the gameplay. The driving is... well, think Mercenaries 2. Or the older GTA games.

The story is pretty progressive. To keep it short but without spoilers, you are a badass Irishman determined to free Paris of Nazi control. I haven't gotten too far either, but the story I'd say would suffice. If you are in it for the story though, I can't say this would be a good purchase. After playing Dragon Age a lot recently though, its easy to see why, especially when I'm expecting dialogue options when my end of the conversation rolls around.

The sound in this game works well. Its surround sound, which is always a plus. Now, to move on to some general babble about the game...

Throughout the beginning of the game you'll notice lots of nudity, albeit its a selectable option (if you don't wish your relatives to see it or what have it be). Although I'm not positive, the console counterparts of this game require some sort of unlock in order to view the mature content. There really isn't anything else as far as bare chests and scantily clad undergarments go, as far as I have witnessed. The stealth kills are awesome to take part in, and give you a sense of awesome. Especially when you steal a Nazi's suit and go into stealth mode. The detection works fairly well, I haven't had any issues with it. However my by far BIGGEST issue with this game, although it sounds minor, is that when driving (through an intersection or crosswalk) I normally stop and wait for civilians to finish crossing, yet the civilians stop, look at me with their hands on their hips, and complain! It annoys the hell out of me and now I just run everything over. I also play on easy, so that's probably why I haven't been caught for it yet.

So far my rating is...

9/10

There aren't many issues with this game as far as I am concerned. Its a generally enjoyable experience and I'm having a blast. One thing Pandemic has done right is to make a great first impression of this game, and I'm hoping that it only gets better. Feel free to ask any questions you may have..

Was planning to put pictures as well, but I can't seem to figure out how and I don't have the time to bother. If you want pictures, go look it up on Google or something! Anyway, hope you enjoyed my first impressions and maybe I can sway some thoughts about this game.

You're a badass Irish dude, and there's nudity in this game?! WHY is isn't this getting more press? I just fear though that - despite the open world - this is a bit like Commandos 2.0: Generation Next. Eidos did the whole sabotage the Nazis' secretly thing long ago, so what makes this different apart from the aesthetics? Its great that you're enjoying the game. Cant wait to see the full review!! Keep it up!!

thanks for info. However i have few questions. What are your Pc specs? Is driving as bad as in mercenaries 2 or can you compare it to at least GTA3 :P Is the default keyboard mapping good enough or shall i play with a 360 controller for better gaming experience? And the last question on my list so far. How challenging this game is on higher difficulty settings? =] thx in advance for any additional info xD

My specs are in my sig, but here they are again anyway...

Intel Core i7 920 @ 3.0 GHz | EVGA GTS 250 512mb | Patriot Viper 4GB DDR3 RAM | 750 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 | XIGMATEK Dark Knight 120mm CPU cooler | XClio Windtunnel Case | Razer Deathadder mouse | Saitek Eclipse II keyboard | Plantronics GameCom 377 headset | Dell 22" 1680x1050 4ms | ASRock X58 Extreme LGA 1366 | Corsair 650W ATX 12V

Any good dual core or even decent quad core should be able to run it well, paired with an 8800/8600 series or higher comparable card.

The driving is very livable. Its very similar to Mercenaries 2. I personally don't have issues with it, but I can see it becoming one with some people. You'll notice that occasionally when you make a wider turn, your car will get some seriously terrible friction. Not very convenient for chase scenes. But livable nonetheless.

The default keyboard mapping works fine for me, I had an issue remembering how to change the camera but I took a quick peek in the options menu and there it was. I don't know how much better it can be with a 360 controller, truth be told.

As for higher difficulties, I can't say. I'm playing on easy, but I can easily imagine this game at a high difficulty (which would be tough).

Don't be paranoid, it was delivered to stores days ago.

How long is it? Replayability? I'm a little short on cash from buying Dragon Age, so I'm a little picky right now when purchasing.

thanks for answering my questions xD i had 2 more that i forgot to ask xP one is about the replay value like the guy before me had said, and the second one is "how many side missions are there? is it like in GTA where you can do lots of other stuff beside the main plot?" To make things clear i compared this game to GTA only because of it's variety when it comes to additional missions xP so don't flame me xD cheers =]

Replayability I can't say anything right now. Keep in mind this is a first impressions thread. But, there are multiple ways you can do missions (think Crysis but obviously more linear). As for side quests, I truthfully have not encountered any. I haven't been looking around the menus much at all (except for the map and options) so I wouldn't know if there were side quests. I'm just enjoying the main storyline right now.
