Thinking of picking this one up, but I've heard it's glitchy as hell and has some almost game-breaking flaws (according to some reviews on Amazon). I'm debating whether to DL the regular edition off of Steam for $39, or get the deluxe (with the ambitions add-on) off of Amazon for $29. Doesn't make sense to pay $10 more for less, but I want to play now. Anyhow, I'm also concerned about content. I hear the game does not even come with a hottub! I know there's a store where you can purchase all kinds of stuff, but I don't want to be nickle and dimed to death. How's the included content? Will I need to buy and buy and buy to get what should've been included in the first place?

Can't say I've ever encountered a single glitch or bug in the game myself. And to be honest It is a step back when compared to Sims 2, There are less furniture and customizationable items for your character which is increased if you buy them from the Sims Store. It's opened up the neighboorhood but that alone can't really save it.

game lacks a lot of content compared to the sims 2, I still prefer the 2nd game. Especially if you enjoy user made items

I'd say order from Amazong, Ambitions was pretty cool, though I prefered World Adventures more. Didn't get the dating expansion though, so I can't comment on that. I only ever encountered one major glitch, but it made me restart the game, and that was just Vanilla, so most of the glitches have been worked out by now.

Rekunta
I think they are like 25 cents...it depends on the item. anyway, the sims 3 does have some glitches, but the most important ones were fixed with updates, so if you patch your game to the latest version, you shouldnt worry, and you can add mods to replace all the crappy stuff it has. for example the default story progression system sucks, its broken and doesnt do anything of what it says it do, so you just install awesomemod and that problem is fixed. you can also download free CC from many sites (yes, its legal, since its made by users who decide to make it free) CC can also include furniture and even hairstyles (the default hairstyles suck) in content, it IS a step backwards from the 2nd one, but as far as gameplay goes its great, i'd definitly say is worth getting if you are into these kind of games

I really hate how TS3 is so microtransaction-oriented, but custom content is always awesome.

As for bugs, you *generally* don't have to worry about any game-breaking bugs. EA is pretty good about keeping games running.

yeah too bad that it was terrible at launch...I remember that when it was launched, the speeds were bugged...the fastest speed didnt made time go any faster, it was the same as the normal speed but with accelerated animation (it would still take the same time to perform something)

i had tons of glitches on my first slower pc, which my new one it works fine but be aware of each new patch since it seems to break more then fix:P

or they have it under control now and didnt in the earlier patches?

as for hot tubs u need the nightlife expansions - hottubs, apartments and a new city, bars etc is added into that one (its my favorite expansion but i got all)

beware of long loading times but i play game with alot of cc - but no mods

i have no experience in sims 1 or 2 but some bad ones about one for ps2, i thougth sims was the most boring game ever - my sim got depressed nonstop - no wonder i screamed - all i do is **** , pee, sleep, work etc!!!!! so i dunno why i ended up picking up sims3 - but i love it, a game where u can play however u want - i dunno a single player who play the game the same way, some likes to create, some do videos, some play generation through generations, some make sims, some have storymode off some on, whatever really all expansion packs add stuff to the gameplay so theyre recomemended for that i dont recomend any stuff pack though - bought one... cc that people do for free legal is way better made then anything in the simstore or stuffpack

Skip Sims 3, get Sims Medieval. I find it to be a lot more fun than any other Sims game before it. IMHO of course.

Get Sims 3, update it to the final version and download awesomemod, that way most bugs are fixed. One of the most annoying bugs in the game taht made the game really unpleasant to play was a bug that caused the story progression be active even if you turned it off. The story progression would end up killing your sims, causing married sims to have children with themselves, moving out sims you have spent hours working on for no reason at all, causing sims to quit their jobs and getting new ones that make no sense at all. Yeah default story progression was a gamebreaker and before the bug was fixed, it was impossible to turn off.

I dont think anyone ended up getting married, however, I noticed several sims getting offspring on their own, this includes singles which is fine. However since said child only has 1 parent as opposed to 2 it can seem a bit wierd (maybe they were adopted though), even if the parent was married. Since these unwanted children were taking up neighbourhoods space that means the game in turn would evict sims to make room for these children, the sims that would sometimes be evicted... were my sims.

So I decided to pick up the Sims 2 the other day instead of 3, and have a few questions. Was going to create a new thread but figure here's good enough.

1) The create a Sim portion strikes me as very limited. Not only in the way my Sim looks, but his/her attributes. I couldn't find any way to make my sim neat, outgoing, etc. Maybe I missed a step, but I thought there's a way to do this? And choosing the turn on/turn offs, there's only four for each, and one is Vampirism. Really? Vampirism?? Others are hygiene, fitness, and one more I can't recall. I can understand 10-20 at the very least, but four is just way too limited for a game that claims customization as one of its main selling points.

2) So after I CaS, I go into Pleasantvile and decide to build my own house on my own lot. So I spend a good 4 hours building and furnishing it, andI try to move my Sim in. Sorry pal, you can't afford it! I'm forced to buy the cheapest lot in the neighborhood, with barely anything in it. Now I'm stuck doing a menial job for 500 bucks a day, plus having to pay $50 for bills, just trying to save up enough to live in my own place. In the meantime, it's piss, cook, shower, nap, do "fun" things to keep him content. This is not fun, it is work. I do this in RL. Not to mention the game has informed me that in 24 days (not sure if this is RL days or in-game (I'm assuming in-game), he's going to be an elder. Great. By the time I'm in my own place, I'll be a walking corpse or dead.

3) I'm CONSTANTLY having to keep on top of my Sims needs, which wouldn't be such a problem if they were slowed down a bit, but once I finish one, another needs doing. Is there a mod that slows it down? I hear the Sims 3 is better in this aspect, but is overall a worse game.....with even LESS content, which must be nothing as TS 2 is fairly sparse in itself. I'm also not going to buy each item I want for $.25-$1. This game really shines in social situations, but this makes keeping on top of needs even a higher priority. If they were slowed down, I think most of my issues would be moot. Everything stems from a lack of time because of them.

4) Is there any way to stack actions within another? For instance, I have two newspapers on the floor. Is there a way to pick up both and take them out to the recycling bin at the same time instead of picking one up, walking out, coming back in, picking up the other, and walking back out? Doing this for everything is incredibly inefficient, tedious, and takes away precious time that could better be used for calling other Sims over, throwing parties, etc. Stuff that's FUN. It's plain out poor design. Can't I choose where to sit when reading for example? Many of the actions seem to be so vague and limited. I'd like more control over my Sim.

All in all, I feel like I'm playing a virtual rat race. The game doesn't allow me to play how I want. I want to be a young Sim with an awesome bachelor pad, throwing parties all the time instead of one always at work, and when not, at home buying things simply to be able to meet his needs. There's got be a better way than this. The game's cool at certain times, but most of the time it's a chore and I'm honestly having trouble understanding its appeal.

Any help would be appreciated.

if you don't want to go through the hard work of building up your fortune as a sim the easiest way is to simply use cheats, press CTRL Shift C to open a text box at the top of your screen. Enter the following for money:

kaching - for 1000 bucks ( simeoleons )

motherlode - for 50,000

just type the word and press enter

  1. I have no idea what is wrong with your game. The create a sim in Sims 2 is downright excellent, here are a two examples Zelda, Back to the future. I was able to choose between like 30 turn on/offs. If a thing is a turn on it can also be a turn off. I could also determine the sim's personality like Neat/ect.
  2. There are 3 monetary related cheats: Kaching (1000), Motherlode (50000), Familyfunds "Family name" "cash" how much you choose (must be in the family rooster as in have no home)
  3. Do you have free will turned on? If so you shouldnt need to manage your sims mood that well, though the free will will not pay bills and will cook chilli con carne, a meal that seems to have a tendancy to burn down my house. Also, if motives are a bother, use the cheats maxmotives (to max your motives) and motivedecay off (to lock them at max).
  4. Unfortunately you can not pick up more than one newspaper at a time but you can pick up several plates at once and such. If newspapers bother you I would recommend you hire a maid.

My The Sims 3 game has a few graphics glitches, but I think that's about it.. and my computer isn't the best computer around, it's actually pretty cruddy. But I definitely prefer The Sims 3 to The Sims 2, for sure. The Sims 3 has a lot more content and customization ability, and the 'create a sim' part is really good. But I must admit, I'm not really a fan of the store thing, where you can buy new objects and stuff for your game, using real money.
