The VTOL controls in Crysis are wack!!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!

Ok,

Perhaps it is because I was playing Crysis at 6:30am with no coffee before having to get ready for work, but this is driving me nuts!! I forgot the name of the level, but I'm sure you Crysis players know what it is. After saving Helena and Prophet and getting them into the VTOL, we are in the VTOL flying and come under attack. The pilot takes a hit and unfortunately NOMAD now has to pilot the VTOL, which sucks because I'm not a Pilot. So I get killed the first time I try to pilot the VTOL and shoot at the same time. Second and third time up (Thank God, I quick-saved), I can barely get the thing moving. I press "W" and nothing happens. I have to hold "W" + "S" + "Left Shift" just to get it moving using the Keyboard. Get to the spot and have to switch to the Gamepad to aim and shoot and keep getting killed by the Alien monsters. Can anyone suggest a way to get through this cr@p??? I HATE PILOTING THE VTOL!! THE CONTROLS S##K!!!! Why can't one of the other guys fly the thing while I shoot??? That would be SOOOO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suggestions on how to get through this part of the level??

I will never, ever understand why people have trouble flying the VTOL. It controls exactly the same way as you do while on foot. Forward, backward, strafing left and right, ascending (jumping), descending (crouching/prone), afterburner (sprinting), and the mouse controls up, down, left, and right turning just like on foot. Exact same controls.

I swear to God, I'm going to make a video of myself ripping it up on that level on delta difficulty someday. I'll show you people! I'LL SHOW YOU ALL!!! :P

I know that level but i forgot how to fly etc.

One thing i remember were some tornados that you evade, and i think that there were some planes that attacked me,but if i remember correctly i just avoided them and went straight 2 marked place on map

Did you try pressing F1 to change camera?

Oh great. In addition to Alien freak fest- there are planes attacking and Tornados to avoid? I'm dead meat!! LOL!!! It's funny, because I rule racing games and have no trouble driving any land based vehicle with wheels on the ground, but put me in any airborn vehicle and I suck!! LOL!!!

Hold on... I CAN CHANGE THE CAMERA VIEW??? YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! THANK YOU... THANK YOU... THANK YOU!!!!! :-D

There are no enemy planes, but tornados do start appearing and catching up behind you if you go too slow and linger too long in an area.JP_Russell

Oh great. So much for high rez, AA and AF and floating around being facinated with the environment... (NOT!! LOL!!!). Ok, I just have to keep moving and keep shooting until everything is dead.... which is how I handle things on the ground anyway...

Stop using a gamepad!

That level is called ascension, i don't think is that difficult, just don't let the fast aliens flank you by getting close to a valley wall so you can't readily be targeted from behind and then open up on the aliens when they come into sight. Avoid turning whenever possible, as the aliens move so much faster than you that you'll only end up whirling in place taking heavy damage from enemies that you can never catch up with.

At the end when you have to reach the carrier stay low, don't get into figths and use your afterburner as much as posible to get out of the island.

I've never used this strategy at all (except the gamepad part; M&K can't be beat). I was able to turn more than fast enough to track the aliens and take them out, and staying against a wall isn't necessary if you can maneuver the VTOL with enough finesse to constantly dodge the scouts and their projectiles like I did.

I seriously hope there is a demo of that I can download somewhere. Forget everything I ever said about not needing or wanting the "high rez eye candy with AA and AF". I think I just found a reason... :-D

That definitely helps. You identified what has been getting me killed- letting them flank me and being unable to turn quickly enough to take them out. Thank you very much for your suggestions.

I beat the level on delta, but the controls are ridiculously rubbish

the turn speed is WAY too slow to shoot enemies with, and the thing refuses to speed up most of the time

I think what everyone is forgetting is that there are strong wind currents in the valley, which intentionally make controlling the VTOL more difficult. Correct me if I'm wrong....?

Not that I ever experienced. Perhaps you were next to tornados all the time and didn't realize it, so they were pulling on you all the time.
