The Witcher have been very successful for Atari. At least two million copies have been sold world wide. An article was linked here on another thread, said a million copies was sold worldwide in two weeks after it was launched. Bottom line, The witcher have been very very successful.

Anyone here thinking this could be a new franchise RPG franchise for us gamers?

We can only speculate, but I'd say it's likely. CD Projekt has a close relationship with BioWare, Sapkowski has written plenty enough novels for there to be enough subject matter for several games, and CD Projekt put so much love into The Witcher, it's clearly just something they really want to do. And they have the means to do it.

I think it is likely. But even if they don't, it's still highly likely they will stick to PC development, and stick to RPG gaming. Unless they get bought out, anyway.

I'm thinking we'll see a cuple expations to The Witcher before we see a sequel to the game. The end of the game gives you the impression that,if they can, they will continue Geralt's story.

I would hope so. Even if a new Witcher were released using the same technology (including some minors tweaks and upgrades) it would do well in my estimation. I still think storyline and gameplay will dominate graphics any day. I have a feeling most PC gamers would agree.

Based on reviews alone (which it's doing awesome in) I would expect a sequel. Sometimes reviews alone can make or break a game. Look at Advent Rising. Personally I really liked this game but the reviews absolutely murdered this game.

The Witcher "2" would be great, because of one thing.

CD Projekt could get a good engine for their game. The Aurora 07 was ok...it pulled it off...but man could it have been better.

I'm glad I gave CD Projekt 50 dollars, because I know they can make great games, they just need a good kick-start, and The Witcher gave them that.

EDIT: Remember this is also based on those Books, so just 1 game isn't likely.

In a polish PC game magazine, whos hq is located near the CDProjekt hq I believe=) They said that a sequel is possible even in as little as 18months. I dont know if this is confirmed or just something they speculate after speaking with CDP.

I emailed one of the developers at CDProjekt not long after i got the game and his reply was mystic but optimistic, he said that i should be on the look out in the future for a possible expansion for the Witcher to continue the storyline or possibley a full second game.

So yes considering the massive success of the Witcher and considering there is a lot of subject material and lore about the "Witcher World" i imagine we'll see a new game or an expansion atleast.

I hope they make a sequel, they probably will. There is so much source material from the stories for creating another sequel.

Why would you revive this? The witcher 2 probably isn't going to happen.

BTW, have you actually finished the game ?

A lot of things were left unexplained

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Who was the assassin that tried to kill the king and why ? (I'm guessing he was a witcher)

What happend to Geralt during those 5 years ?

Why the hell didn't any of Geralt's friends didn't mention Yennefer (Geralt's love) and Ciri (Geralt's foster child) (they're from the books, the game resumes 5 years where the books end, where Geralt "dies")

i really hope they do. witcher was an awesome story line, great gameplay, decent graphics (could be better now that hardware is more advanced), all the right stuff. plus, the books/short stories about Geralt give a lot of great material to work with. also, hes a total badass :)

assassin at the end: definitely a witcher, had the potion strap, the cat eyes and he moved like Geralt. witcher 2: Geralt vs. witcher conspiracy??

also, jaque d'aldesburg had a beaten up and aged dimeridium amulet.... like alvin's.... who disappeared into nowhere. maybe to DA FUTURES to become d'aldesburg!!?!?!?!

i also dont think that all has been explained about triss' conversation with the sorceress in the mirror. "dont let the witcher know what you hide from him". triss may like Geralt but i feel like her allegiances are still with the sorceresses. maybe she turns bad in the next one

How the hell did you resurrect this thread? And by your comment, "I hope they do", seems you haven't been paying attention to the headlines lately. They already have The Witcher 2 in the works. The other offshoot versions are axed due to economic problems with the developer. So it sounds like the only thing that'll stop the sequel is financial troubles.

They have it in the works? since when? I looked for info but all they said so far (from what I know) is that there is no Witcher 2 and if you're talking about that vid in which they thank the community, that is not Witcher 2, so if you know some info on it, please share ;).

I sure hope we get a The Witcher 2!!

If im not mistaken its already been stated that they have canned the console version of The Witcher, and are instead putting all there effort into The Witcher 2 (although that could be a rumour).

The Witcher is undeniably a top-notch RPG. And I must say that their opening cinematic pwns. It took them over a year to engineer that cinematic, and it's amazing what CD Projekt Red did with motion-capture, real swordplay, and CG. It should have been given the award it had been nominated for.

They also did a bang-up job fixing the English translation in the Enhanced Edition.

I'll definitely buy Witcher 2 on the day of release: I would even go as far as to pre-order, if it continued Geralt's story.

The Witcher is, hands down, the best RPG since Baldur's Gate 2 Shadows of Amn. Hopefully, there will be a full fledged sequel soon. And even more hopefully, other game companies out there will have finally learned a most valuable lesson: that a good storyline and interesting characters make for a much better and more profitable game than one that simply offers stellar graphics. After BG2 the industry started spinning out subpar RPGs, crappy multi-players (see Neverwinter Nights), and that effectively ended the genre's golden age. With the success of the Witcher perhaps will see a renaissance.
