So a few days ago I posted here asking if my laptop could run The Witcher 2, and the general concensus was yes, but to reiterate, specs are as follows:

Graphics: GeForce 660M GTX

Processor: Intel i7 2.4 ghz

RAM: 8gigs

Even on lowest settings the framerate never goes above the mid 20s, and often lags a bit.  Is this game just really poorly optimized, or that much of a resource hog?  It's not as if it doesn't run, it does and it is bearable, but I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to increase performance.  Like I said, already running on lowest settings...

Doesn't sound right noteboke check has much higher frames for the gtx 660m in the witcher 2 at medium settings at 1336x768 then what your getting at low so unless your running at a high resolution you should be getting higher fps then that?  The most likely cause is that your not actually running the game of the dedicated gpu in your laptop and it using the integrated graphics card which makes sense as your current fps at low settings is a similair fps range as what notebook check has for the intel HD 4000 in the witcher 2.  Here is a video showing how to force the Nvidia GPU to be used when you launch a game in this case the witcher 2 try it to see if fixes your problems.

Your cpu is too slow. Also lower settings and make sure SUPERSAMPLING is off.

Not really. I have an HD 7950 and I run it at 60fps the majority of the time. It's easily one of the best looking games currently available and really isn't too far behind some of these next gen games we have been seeing (better than some actually). So I'd say the optimization is pretty decent.

Yeah, it does rely on the CPU quite a bit.

Nonsense. TC, just disable the supersampling and bring down AA and AF a bit.

No it isnt. The problem is probably the conflict with Nvidia 3DVision drivers that was an issue when the game first launched. The first patch fixed this problem and TW2 offers updates automatically. So if you are playing a pirated version make sure you update it or just remove the nvidia 3DVision drivers.

I had some stuttering while playing the game (even though I had 60fps), I downloaded some file and it made the game run very smoothly. I can't remember what the file was called, but maybe you should look around for that.

I think we've identified the problem. I am running the game at my native res of 1920x1080, so I should turn that down a bit and see if it improves. I bet you that will close the gap from my current framerate to where I want it to be.

Yes it is. On an i5 3450 (3.1Ghz), 550ti 1gb and 8gb RAM @ 1080p with everything turned off getting 30fps is HORRIBLE optimization if you ask me

It's been running mostly okay, obviously loading is the big issue. When I am moving quickly through an area, or right after a cutscene in a new location, it tends to stutter as it loads things, but it's never game breaking. I have to admit, I was hoping it would run a little better. Still, it runs well enough and it's a really fun (and really freaking hard) game

Dude, that GPU is low end. It's your hardware, not the software.

Yeah, it does rely on the CPU quite a bit.

I don't think that is the issue. I played the game fine on ultra with an Athlon 640, which i'm pretty sure is noticeably weaker than an i7, even a mobile one.

I found this video of a guy with a 660m, and he says he got 25-40 FPS on max w/o ubersampling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zgrVf_C2XQ

Currently playing the game and have kinda the same issue, the game running at 80-90fps most of the time but when moving too fast or moving through the forest and game loads some areas it stutters for a sec and just doesn't feel buttery smooth like other games, maybe im too sensetive, IDK, but here is my seetings and you can see my system spec bellow. Also its the enhanced version from Steam. BTW Im playing on a 120hz monitor.

That's weird how you have the video settings. I turn everything all the way up. Memory pool, large, texture downscaling off though. Ubersampling off. Everything else turned all the way up and I'm getting 60fps+ all the time.

Edit:  I noticed you said steam version.  That could be the problem.  There have been reports of people having issues with the steam version.  I'm using the DRM-free version.
