I just received an email from CD Projekt Red saying the witcher is coming to ps3/x360. PC gamers what can you say about this?

Read the bolded words. I love PC gaming but i HATE PC ELITISM. I for one am happy console gamers get to play this awesome game. I say it will blow them away.

http://www.thewitcher.com/newsletter/en/2008-12.html

The Witcher

is a new game built from the ground up, using the same great story from The Witcher to create the ultimate console RPG. We've created an exciting new action-based combat system that takes full advantage of the console controller, we've created a new game engine with our friends at Widescreen Games to draw the most power from the consoles, and we're implementing a ton
of other features that will play to the consoles' strengths.

We want to deliver a deep and dynamic console RPG unlike anything you've ever played before.
The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf brings with it all of the depth of the PC game that sold more than a million copies and won more than 100 awards, simply re-imagined and remade to meet
and exceed the expectations of today's console gamers.

Before you PC die-hards throw up your hands in revolt… please remember that RED is still working on two unannounced games. For now, give Rise of the White Wolf a second look, even if you're not a console gamer. We're not into dumbing things down in future PC releases… as an example, we're not even dumbing things down for a console release. We think that all gamers – regardless of platform loyalty – want deep story-driven games, and we're delivering what we think is the deepest console RPG yet.

For now, visit TheWitcher.com to see the brand new cinematic trailer from Platige Image and Oscar-nominated director Tomasz Baginski, then be sure to get into the community to talk about the game!

Console gamers are gonna love this I think and I'm glad that CDPR isn't dumbing the console version down. It should be played as the deep RPG that it is. Errr I mean..... PC gaming is dying. Run for the hills. Blah blah blah

Hmm. I'm not sure if they are going to like it or not. They loved Oblivion but this is quite a different game. Deeper combat, choices. I wonder how it will run on the console though. I mean heck, there were A LOT of load screens even in the EE on PC. And it wasn't that well optimised either. Just don't add a cover system..no cover system please.

I have mixed feelings about this. While it is great that CDPR is going to make more money (probably, anyway) with which they can use to develop more games, the problem with developers going multiplatform is that over time, they tend to "console-ize" their games, even when they originated on the PC. Grand Theft Auto, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and Deus Ex are perfect examples of this. If CDPR can manage to keep PC games PC games and console games console games, then this will surely be positive for everyone.

They will dumb it down for console players, don't worry for them... Personally, I expect the witcher 2, or any future sequel, to be multiplat and dumbed down from now. btw kinda sad that they launched a marketing capaign on their website for a console port when the big majority of people who frequent it are pc gamers.

If Valve can manage it, so can CDPR. Only Time will tell.

Good for them. I'd like to see how it is received on console tbh, and if they keep all features intact I will be very impressed.

The Witcher doesn't have cutting edge graphics and the control is quite simple. the story and presentation is where this game shines. how it can be dumbed down like all these nay-sayers think is totally beyond me.

I'm OK with them bringing the game to consoles but the only thing that bugs me is that we're yet losing another great PC game exclusive developer. On the other hand, there are many console game exclusive developers! I'm only fearing that they'll overlook the PC as they go multi-platform, as is the case with some game developers...

Im pretty sure Valve ports their games to xbox 360. Maybe it isn't the main team that does the PC game, but its done internally at Valve.

Well since you're in the PC forum, should it be "The Witcher going to PS3/X360"? I am happy for them, they will finally get a decent RPG with the exception of F3.

Good for them, hope they don't dumb it too much. I have both a 360 and PS3 (360 hasn't been turned in about a year, PS3 I use for Blu-Ray movies), so I might pick it up just to check it out. My biggest concern about it is sales.....If they don't screw it up too badly there's no doubt the console version will sell TONS more compared to the PC version. I just hope that doesn't make Red consider going to consoles all together as we've seen happen to many PC exclusive developers before them.

You've got to see the first trailer. Geralt is BUFF! The dude has been working out, now I wonder why they would want change his wiry frame for the console crowd.
