is the witcher any good?i found the enhanced ed for 20$ and decided to pick it up because i wanted to get back to a more "classic" rpg instead of the fallout type rpgs that are around today.i know this game(the witcher) has been out for awhile but i know absolutly nothing about it.

It kinda plays like Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. If it's just the Enhanced version and if you are in the US, you might want to download and install the Director's cut edition, patch.

It plays nothing like vampire. Vampire is an action rpg with mediocre shooting with accuracy inticators and beat em up meele combat and passive spells The witcher works with a click at the right time combat system that you click and click again when the crosshair flashes and using the right attack type, heavy, medium or group attack and there is no ranged combat and the spells are offensive attacks. In vampire you choose a character, a cl@ss and backgroudn and male of female and make dialogue choices that give you good or evil alligments (humanity)and all the dialogues change various outcomes in the game. In the witcher you take the role of Geralt and you make no custumazations on the character and there is no good/evil alligment and there are quite a few choices to make, you could say there is not much roleplaying in the dialogues, you just follow the story and make some choices wherever you wanna choose this or that. In vampire the only way to level up is to complete quests to get 1-2 skill points which you use to upgrade your abilities that require a specific amount of points. Killing monsters does not give you exp. In the witcher you kill mosnters to get exp and you get bronze, silver and golden points which can give you one perk which costs one of those points and not 9 or 16, those perks do not upgrade things like how much damage you do with this type of weapon or how much dexterity you get, they upgrade some % multipliers of the various actions or damage resistance types the wicher has and some work only if your character is suffering from something like bleeding, blindness or he is at very low health. So to answer the tc, its very diffirent game from what you have seen but quite amazing, get it.

The Witcher-Sex edition . Seriously, the game atmosphere is amazing, but the game is glitchy and the combat is not that great. But still the environment and atmosphere is one of a kind. Its totally medieval and dark.

Not at all. Just stating the facts and the mechanics.

I think comparisons with Bloodlines are apt enough - it's not an exact copy, but the game's focus on characters and narrative to the detriment of its other aspects is certainly the same. The Witcher has a fantastic story and even better characters. Just keep a couple of things in mind when you play it: -It starts REALLY slow. The opening 'tutorial' is painful and the next chapter isn't a whole lot better. Past that, it's fantastic. -Combat starts dull and remains dull. You could argue it does require timing, but the timing is always the same and although Geralt twirls and leaps and slashes and flails around like a figure skater having a seizure, it's remarkably unsatisfying and the sense of connecting with your enemies is weak. Thankfully, there's not a lot of combat compared to talking to dudes. -Character customization is essentially nil. You can upgrade weapons and there are a couple of suits of armor you can purchase, but that's it.

I played some of the game with my old rig. At combat, it all got laggy so perhaps thats why I found it to be terrible. Im thinking of another go with this game.

I had the same problem due to playing on a very old system. Then I got my laptop and now it's almost a completely different game. I don't de as often either! :D Being able to have shadows and weather helps with the immersion/mood as well.

I bought the game around Christmas for $13 from Steam. It was all hyped up on the forums. I was pretty disappointed with it and never finished it. The combat is clunky and all the NPCs look the same. But, hey, if pixelated mammaries are your thing...
