CD Projekt RED announced today The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, which will be released in May.

Behold some changes:

Loading times reduced by 80%.

Improved inventory:
o Filtering of alchemy ingredients by content,
o Auto-sorting of items in satchel,
o Special slot area for sorting alchemy ingredients in satchel

Character differentiation mechanism (effectively generating
approximately 50 new character appearances).
 Look-at feature (characters look at Geralt, deepening player
immersion).

100 new gesture animations in dialogues and cut-scenes, giving
more natural feel of conversations with NPCs.
 Improved facial expressions.

And many others, including two mods and a mod editor.

The mods and the editor will be available to download in march, the rest is coming in may.

More about this, including the full list, here: http://www.thewitcher.com/resources/upload/img/news/2008/02/Enhanced%20Edition%20fact%20sheet.pdf

If they release this as a patch, I am pretty screwed. I have the french version, mod will conflict with my game :\

But I have to say that it's a pretty nice update O_O. On Valve level if it's free.

Very cool, I thought they did a good job of fixing the load times already in patch 1.2.

If it's running at expansion/budget prices, then I think this is cool. I didn't actually get to finish the game because all my saves were deleted (not a patch issue, it just happened) so I need to go back and replay the whole game at some point.

Playing a better version of the game would appeal to me. But if it runs at full retail price, then it's just exploititive unless there's a lot more content. Maybe an additional Act serving as an expansion. With the reduced price, it would be good incentive for old and new players to buy it.

Agreed, seems like some of these improvments (esp. the inventory changes) really should be made available in a patch.

It will be available in all language versions, so don't worry. All new content from Enhanced Edition will be downloadable, so everybody who had already purchased the game will have it for free.

No, I think it is only the North American version that was submitted to the ESRB. Since I live in Canada I cannot order the UK version from one of the only US importers who carries it.

Haven't played all that much of that game, since I knew a patch would fix some of the problems. I'm glad I waited.

This is great, if it's a free download. If not, CD Project will be added to the list of "money hungry companies" PC-gamers are so keen on hating.

Whoohoo!! 8)

That would really be the main factor in my excitement, I don't want to have to re-purchase the entire game (I have the UK version).

Now that's good to hear, but load times have already been greatly improved, and now they're gonna up it to 80% better?! I guess it's to make the initial load time shorter.

So there special announcement is that I have to buy a new version of the game so I can enjoy the game without severe issues the game shipped with? Like the vista bug and other things they could have avoided? Mod tools and a new couple hour adventure is bull, if they don't release a patch with the new fixes I will never buy another game from them again. I'll even go out of my way and make sure most people that rely on me for information about good pc games know about how horrible this is.

This is good news. I have tried the demo but have been putting off buying the game after seeing the sometimes ridiculous conversations and after experiencing the load times. I will definatley be buying this edition.

That's cool I guess. Honestly I don't really know why I was upset about it. I like The Witcher but I would never want to play it again. It's just too damn long and it starts out way too slow even for an rpg. Eh by the time it comes out it won't matter anyways, bad timing with Mass Effect and Age of Conan coming out. Unless Conan turns out to be a bust which is very likely and ME is only a 30 hour game. Hmm.

So since it's free for those who already have it, why do they release an enhanced addition anyway? Is it just to help those who flat-out don't have any internet service what-so-ever?

"Would you kindly" read the GS preview of this enhanced edition.

It says that it includes the enhanced game but also the soundtrack, a 50 page short story and a making of DVD.

I'm pretty sure it will be full priced which is probably justified...

I would've preferred an expansion/sequel, but the things they've promised have given me reason to purchase the game again, even though they're offering it through a patch, because of the few extra things they're including in the retail version.

After just completing the game with a gazillion hours in it, I don't know if this will be enough to get me to put a gazillion more hours into it. But it was one of my favorite games from 2007, so I'm glad to see it get more spotlight that it deserves.

So the mod and editor will be a free download? I hope so, I'm not to bothered about the language fixes and with the v1.2 patch the loading times on my comp are fine.

I am in the middle of chapter 2. So far I don't have any issues with loading times (installed 1.2) or the game crashing. For people who finished the game....

should I wait for this new patch to be out? (I am also in the middle of Bioshock, COD4 and WIC)

When is it out , in March or in May?

Thats a pretty big spit in the face for everyone thats already bought the game for top dollar if they don't release the updates in a patch.

80% of the load times reduced? Thats a HUGE difference and its sounding like they released the game just a bit to early ;)

In March you can download the mod editor and "price of neutraility" mod... in May you get another mod and the in-game improvments

I pretty much hated The Witcher. An enhanced edition can't make a bad game good. For those of you who enjoyed it I would like to know what you liked about it cause it was so incredibly bland when I played it I was actually in shock to see how well it sold.

Compared to other games I play it seemed like it was not quite done and lacked polish. That really annoyed me. That and the control scheme and gameplay mechanics just felt wrong. I know that there are people that like the game, but compared to the games that I like this one rated low enough to be considered abysmal. I literally found nothing interesting in the game. I just want to know what it is about this game that people like specifically so that I can have a better understanding of why it sold well.

The Witcher, Bland? That's funny coming from someone playing Guild Wars.
