The Witcher or Mass Effect? Or perhaps Dragon Age?

If Fallout 3 and New Vegas are what got you hooked, Mass Effect would probably be the way to lean though either way you go is a good choice.

I don't think Fallout shares anything with Mass Effect except the fact that they both have shooting in them.

I just want to avoid a lord-of-the-rings-like fairytale, unless it's dark enough, if you know what I mean. What is The Witcher about exactly?

Oh, Witcher is definitely not LotR. He is in a totally different world, where humans are transformed into monster-slayers by means of alchemy, magic, diet, and training. He's like an X-man, and wields two swords (steel and silver). He has several magical signs he can cast. The games feature very deep storylines with the capability of making neutral decisions. The beauty of his decisions are that they do not always provide immediate results - you can see results a couple or so chapters later in the story. He has very few friends (people he can trust), and he has to deal with hatred and suspicion of witchers in general, even though the public clamors for his help. He can also make alchemical potions to enhance his capabilities and make his swords more effective in battle.

Twitch based combat with stats and skills playing a more mild roll then the others in a sci-fi setting. Not calling them identical twins here, just saying out of the three Mass Effect has the most in common.

Between Dragon Age 1, The Witcher 1, and Mass Effect 1 thats really a tough choice since they are all great games. I would say just pick any of them, but you should relay just play all 3 since they are all wonderful. If you need anymore help then all I can say is Dragon Age is a dark RPG that lets you create your character and mold them as you see fit throguh out the game. You also have a party with you. The same for Mass Effect but not as dark and its more sci fi. The witcher just has you playing as one character who is pretty interesting and the game and story are fun as well. Make sure to play the wither 2 and mass effect 2 when you beat each game and as said before avoid dragon age 2 like the plague.

Personally, I enjoyed the Witcher 2 much more than the Witcher 1. Witcher 1 has very bad game play. If you like combat to be a bit more challenging than clicking your mouse button when the screen flashes then go with the Witcher 2. Witcher 1 storyline is also extremely boring.

I think the complete opposite. I thought the combat was far more engaging and better designed. The story was also far more interesting and did a better job of capturing the world of The Witcher.

Jango speaks the truth, I agree. They fixed some things in TW2 that weren't broken, like taking potions during melee, and taking fistfights away from the mouse. They should have left them alone, they worked fine.

I actually liked the new fist fighting system, but its not challenging in anyway possible. All of the fist fights in TW2 are a breeze to play through.

Mass Effect Series, then DA:O, then witcher 1+2(still a great games, but I like DA:O a bit more, but they're all really great), then DA2 (i'd say play this just incase DA3 returns to its roots, so you can keep up with the story)

I know a game, this game is just breath-taking. Nothing even comes close to it. It feels like you're watching a blockbuster movie it's that immersing. The graphics are just perfect and detailed fantastically. From start to finish you'll have your mouth left open from amazement. It will eat up hours and hours of your time if you allow it.

This game is.... Mass Effect. You can't go wrong in anyway with this brilliant series. I would sell my soul for Mass Effect 3 right now.

It had a lot of flaws and annoyances that I really disliked. Stuff like the inventory, mako driving, lack of good side quests and other minor stuff really made it hard for me to enjoy it. Especially after playing a game like KOTOR, my expectations were very high.

Mass Effect isn't a well optimised game for the PC IMO, Dragon Age is a good game, I hate the witcher's combat system and the story is boring and hard to follow.

Dragon Age Orgins is a very traditional rpg, but its also a very good game if you have the patience . The Mass Effect games have pretty awesome moments, and combat wise it plays like a shooter more than RPG, however the story while in some people's opinion is predictable and kinda like a movie, its still amazing and the amount of work put into the writing and the characters is enough to keep you interested for the duration of the game, it is also fun as hell to lift people 20 feet into the air and watch them crumple to the ground like rag dolls. The dialogue system is also pretty neat and the ability to make some game changing choices that carry on to the next game is also a pretty nice addition.

The Witcher series is set in a Dark Fantasy setting, and it certainly is nothing like Lord of The Rings. The first one has its flaws and the first 4 or 5 hours are really slow, but after that it picks up and while the combat system is a bit clunky its still a enjoyable game. Witcher 2 is actually the opposite. The first 20 or so hours(Chapter 1 and 2) are amazing, and on Normal and above is quite challenging(though they balanced it a bit in the new patch)I liked the story, and for the most part combat is very fun after you learn the basics, there are some mini games like fist fighting which is basically you pressing one or two buttons as they come up on the screen until you win, I didn't like it too much, but you do get some money after each fight, this of course is completely optional is arm wrestling and a dice game. The last chapter is extremely short and the Ending for lack of a better word sucked. Though the Developers did say there would be a expansion. Both Withcer games have the ablity to create potions that are often very helpfull for the boss fights. There are potions that can make you see and the dark as well as see blood trails that lead you to bodies for quests. There are also the standard health potions and strength potions. There are a number of side quests, and overall they are as well written as the Main storyline.

Witcher,Mass Effect and Dragon Age dont have very much in common and appeal to three different groups of people, if you like Traditional RPGs with a optional top down tactical view and the ability to pause the game and order your group around before unpausing the game and seeing what happen then Dragon Age is your game. If you like Science Fiction and a more streamlined RPG with heavy shooter elements with a emphasis on story rather than exploring and the ability to make choices that actually matter as well as a huge amount of DLC then Mass Effect is your game. If you are interesting in an more mature Dark Fantasy RPG with some more challenging gameplay and Alchemy being a key game-play element and some cool looking monsters and challenging bosses as well as pretty colors and environments. Witcher is your game.

this.

My personal favorite is the Witcher but its not the most accessible game. I say play the witcher but just know, its a long game and its really really dense.

This is JUST MY OPINION.

Dragon Age: Origins is an RPG masterpiece.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 are solid as narrative games with shooter and RPG elements mixxed in.

The Witcher 1 is immersive and atmospheric, but limited and cumbersome.

The Witcher 2 is challenging and complex, but a bit short and unsatisfying.

Dragon Age 2 is an RPG-lite action game that I found disappointing.

Conclusion: If you haven't played DA:O, do yourself a favor and pick it up. Otherwise amuse yourself with Mass Effect until something better comes out. If you played Witcher1 and are a fan, you should probably already have played Witcher2. If you haven't played either of those, I would just skip them. Regardless of anything, just ignore DA2.

I would have to say any of the three. Dragons Age 2 is the more demanding though I found. You will have to put some hours into it especially on higher difficulty level.
