The Witcher can become repetitive if you compare it to other rpg's but overall the coolness factor is there for some new things never done before.

UT3 scales ok, but its a beast hog if you want decent graphics. Otherwise, consider it like GoW below 1024 res. Pixelated poop. ^__^

I would go Witcher.

Oblivion and Morrowind namely, then of course the ever popular Neverwinter Nights 2. Then Fable of course.

You're joking, right? Oblivion and Morrowind weren't repetative!!!??? :lol: :lol: :lol: All the missions are fetch this item or raid this dungeon and kill someone/something. The main quests in Oblivion are shut down the Oblivion gate

NwN 2 is as repetative as the Witcher (and I don't think that The Witcher is repetative)

Fable's combat was very repetative

The Witcher wasn't repetative at all

Take The Witcher. UT3 is a well optimized rehash and nothing more.

Kane, in The Witcher. All the missions are kill this monster, ask this person for something- kill whatever is bothering them, deliver this, light this candle, etc.

Oblivion was truly open ended as was Morrowind. The Witcher, is certainly not. And compared to Fable, there aren't nearly as many combinations of what you can become. There is no stealth or guile, no lightning bolts, and your "signs," aren't even really all that powerful. I applaud the Witcher for its other qualities. But certainly not groundbreaking originality.

I love The Witcher, but your logic is clearly flawed in this specific case. Me and most other people playing UT3 will probably put a lot more than 9 hours into it.

At the risk of sounding like a company shill, i ended up buying both games. Gogamer.com has UT for $35 and The Witcher for $30. The Witcher is on special so it'll probably be gone in a few days. I picked up my copy of the Witcher at EB, though i kinda regret buying it there instead of buying the imported version....but meh, not that big of a deal.

I can't disagree more...

Oblivion = 0 repetative

Morrowind = a lot better then Oblivion but is it indeed highly repetative?

NwN2 = highly linear story, it has some replay value but not much

Fable = 0 repetative

The Witcher = semi-linear story, with limited skills features (you can't have max skills in everything) and diffrent ways of passing one quest i would say it is highly repetative

Maybe it's just me but I did't found much replay value in it... i also liked Fable but most of its choices leaded to similar consequences or hadn't consequences at all...

Actually both are very repetative no matter how you look at them.

Please stop this nonsense. It is making my head hurt.

Very few games are actually not repetative. No matter what it will most always be the same controls, and combat will ALWAYS have repetitions. I challenge anyone to find a game where combat is constantly changing. Go on.

Ahh, now it makes sense

But still, The Witcher has more replay value than Fable because it has more choices

I Love the witcher. yes it's repetitive. But to say oblivion isnt more so is a joke. I have played a good dose of oblivion (over 60 hours) but once you have got to level 20, the game just grinds to a halt and its just the same thing over and over. The scaling system really is oblivions downfall. Never liked morrowind either, but I did love Daggerfall! (the grand daddy of the elder scrolls)

The witcher is just sublime. Elder scrolls has become a glorified FPS. (and a poor fps at that)

The Witcher, I will agree that it has a bunch of those standard issue "collect # of ". But at least it doesn't try to make those quests into anything more. They're there for some extra experience and loot, plain and simple, you never have any of these sorts of quests in the main story line.

UT3 doesn't really warrant a purchase at all, IMO. Of course I don't have it, so my opinion on that doesn't mean much, but the demo didn't really offer anything I haven't seen anywhere else in a better form.

What I love about The Witcher is that the story isn't another one of those Good vs. Evil (read: zero originality and an insult to your intelligence.) but it's really just boils down to what you (or your character) thinks is right. Some of the decisions are pretty hard to make and left me doubting my choice afterwards. I'd say that's pretty well executed if it does that to you.
I really hope we'll see a lot of other RPG's with stories like that.

But honestly guys, you're comparing Oblivion to The Witcher?! WTF!
The Witcher is story driven. And it actually has RPG elements besides freaking leveling.
Oblivion is a sand box FPS with leveling. And a few paragraphs which you're supposed to pretend is a story.

Please, just stop calling Oblivion an RPG....it's not. Anyone who has played it can tell you that it's emphasis is on killing hordes of beasties, and nothing else.
Now, The Witcher definatly has hordes of beasties, but killing them isn't the objective, it's a means of reaching the objective.
And yes, Geralt may not have any stealth of advance magic skills, but he isn't meant to be one. Geralt is a character comparable to Conan of James Bond, not Garett or Solid Snake or whomever.
The Witcher is a roleplaying game in the sense that it let's you play Geralt The Witcher in his seriously screwed up world, and it does that well.

The Witcher. UT3 is kind of a letdown. Its predecessor (UT2004) totally whips it. So if you want to play Unreal Tournament, consider this.
