So, I just bought The Witcher, and when I tell it to 'check for updates,' it takes me to The Witcher site, and asks me to download a patch to upgrade it to the Enhanced Edition.

I just want to confirm that this is a free upgrade. I'm just wondering, because why would they sell the Enhanced Edition separately if it is just a patch for the original version?

Yes it's free and the same thing. I think the enhanced comes with some extra stuff like a map or something.

Wikipedia: The Witcher Enhanced Edition includes a "making of" DVD, a CD with 29 in-game soundtracks, another CD with "Inspired by" music, the short story The Witcher from the book The Last Wish, a map of Temeria printed on high quality paper, and the official strategy guide.

Yes it is a free patch and Witcher Enhanced Edition is sold at a full price because it's a retail version of the game, already patched with lots of extras and the most important addition to the enhanced edition, imo, the book which you can't get as a free download.

Witcher EE retail is only for people that didin't already get the game, so start downloading the free patch ;) it will take a lot of time to install it.

From Witcher website you'll get the EE patch, soundtracks FREE. Other things are available with retail package only. :)

Enhanced Edition is not sold separately, it is sold as a version of the retail game that has been updated to Enhanced Edition. The download is free.

i hate to break it to you, mate...but you seem to have kicked start 2009 with a bad deal. i don't know why you didn't, but there's no reason not buying the EE version of the game -- it saves you the trouble of downloading all that stuff, and it comes with a buttload of interesting freebies. it's just.....damn....i really feel kinda sorry for you.
