The Witcher reviewed 8.5

wtf I was just checking the reviews page and nothing there

anyway, fair score I guess, with their new scoring system

I've not played it yet as i'm still playing SilverFall (now there's an underrated game).zeus_gb

I played the demo for Silverfall and hated it, but I may have to give the full version a try once the price comes down a bit more.

I'm currently waiting for my copy of The Witcher to arrive I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I'd give Witcher at least 9.5, simply for the devs being brave, and trying something new. Most devs only care about money, so they try to stay as close as possible to what succeeded in the past. I'm sick ant tired of that. There's very little innovation these days.

Witcher is finally somethign new. Some of the new stuff is awesome, some not so much, but the important thing, is that the devs are TRYING for a change!

They were not afraid to put mature content into the game, and I applaud them for that. Screw the whiny puritans! If anyone thinks this game has "inappropriate" content, DONT PLAY IT! But please, leave those who like the game THE HELL ALONE!

Same. It's a travesty that a beautiful-but-brainless game like gears of war gets 9.0 when a roleplaying masterpiece gets 8.5 They mark it down for the translation, it seems, but so far I've found the dialogue mostly great.

It's basically impossible to compare Gears of War with The Witcher though

Amen. I wish there were some way I could help support CDProjekt to show them we want more adult-themed RPGs. I've already bought the game...not sure what else there is to do. I'm tired of the same old kiddie crap. The average gamer is in their twenties or thirties! Give us games meant for people in their twenties and thirties!

8.5 is a very good score for this game....

But surely does not deserve 9.0 or above

9.0 or above are for RPGs like Baldurs Gate series, Planetscape etc

The Witcher is very good but not as good as Baldurs Gate

I think it's great that devs try out new things and stand out from the rest, but to give a higher score than the game deserves based on bravery and trying something new is plain wrong. New concepts/ideas does not always equal quality.

I have not played the game yet, so it might very well be a 9.5. I read one review that said the only two drawbacks about this game are loading times and crashes, the rest is fantastic.

While i can agree with your opinion somewhat, personally i think the game is around an 8.5-8.8 mostly subtracting for technichal issues with loading/saving etc, and the poor inventory issues among other things. The simple fact is that GS keeps handing out automatic 9+ reviews to hyped games or games for innovation WIC/Orange box.

Bioshock 9.0

WIC 9.5

GOW 9.0

Orange box 9.5

not one of these games deserves more then a 9 rating. orange box is by far the best of the above 4, and it really only deserves a 9 at best. Of the 5 games i list, many have glaring issues that GS frankly ignores, because they are either a game thats hyped, or from a big developer.

you cant really argue the New innovation should not get rewarded, when wic got such an absurdly high score because they approached RTS Genre in a new way. Im sure we will see the 9.8 crysis review, and the 8.7 HGL review coming from GS soon, because those games could not ever be worth less of a score from GS.
