the witcher: yay or nay?

so, ive never been too interested in rpgs. morrowind is the only one i have and IMO it is really drab and dull and slow.

anyway, i checked out the witcher demo, cos people love it on here, and it seemed pretty cool, nice combat and such. so, would you suggest i buy this game? despite the fact that im not mad keen on rpgs and prefer linear games?  the concept and story of it seem interesting

anyway, please contribute, and tell me if i were only to ever play one rpg, should the witcher be it?

Yes, if not just for the fact that it is one of the best rpgs in recent years. I do not like many rpgs but this is a shining example of it done right. As you have played the demo you know what to expect gameplay wise, if you get it though I highly recommend getting the Enhanced Edition, it comes with a bunch of extra goodies for $40. By the way the story isn't your typical good fights evil or things like that, it is shades of grey and plays out realistically which is one of the main reasons I bought it.

Because its a cool game, the graphics don't suck, has good story, and the gameplay is good.

It's quite good.  I wouldn't call it a true RPG as you're playing one, pre-defined character which does place a lot of limitations on how the game plays out.  It's more like an adventure game than an RPG in that respect.  THe game does drag a bit in the middle as you jump back and forth between the swamp and the town, but if linearity and story is your thing, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Quite true but you can define your character through some of the choices you make such as whether you decide not to kill all monsters or whether you want to have a family or not, the sort of relationship you want to have etc. 

Well, The Witcher is one of the best RPGs ever, but if you're more into shooters I suggest you try Mass Effect first
