I was looking for a different experience then my itouch but after many hours of research I have determined there is not a player that can match the itouch. When you combine features, apps, and just useablitiy all of the other players are just bland.

Sure the Cowon might sound a lil better but if your like most users who are using basic mp3's that fact is nill anyway.

I also use a premium set of Klipsch s7 headphones and admit the stock ipod headphones suck major butt.

You sound pretty young, but it might do you some good to know that creating threads about stuff like this makes you sound insecure with your purchase. It's also material more fitting for a blog, since you aren't really trying to initiate any discussion, but are instead stating your opinion and not asking for anyone else's.

That's like saying a swiss army knife is better as a cutting instrument than a machete. Sure, the swiss army knife has more features..unfortunately, these features really don't help much with the "knife" functionality...

I'd rather carry a proper instrument for the job over a jack-of-all-trades device that isn't quite as good at what I want it for. I'd say my biggest problem with Apple devices is how locked-down they are, and next up would be format support. I wouldn't even be able to play Ogg/Vorbis tracks (widely considered to be the best lossy format available) if I had an iTouch (edit: for the record, I keep lossless, CD-quality music on my PC, and transcode to Ogg/Vorbis for my PMP. I don't deal with garbage-quality MP3s.)My player is also significantly smaller than an iTouch, and it has significantly longer battery life (actually, it'll probably last longer playing videos than an iTouch will strictly playing music.)

Sure, I can't play much in the way of games on other music players, but if I'm feeling like I might want to, I can always grab my DSi on the way out the door (which, I must say, is also better at what it's made to do..)

Anyway, that's how I feel about it..though you may not care with that rather immature, "my opinion is absolute" outlook you're coming as having.

The iTouch has more in common with smart phones than music players, it's just an iPhone without the phone capability. As a music player it's pretty poor, it's over sized, over priced and has comparatively poor audio quality. It all depends what you want from the device. However the iTouch doesn't stack up that well against slightly more expensive smart phone either, a HTC Tattoo with 32gb SD card only costs about 10-20 quid more than a 32gb iTouch and yet has many more features (phone, GPS, camera, open platform).

My LG Dare works just fine for MP3's. It even has a 3.5mm headphone jack :) But I will add that the itouch is amazing. But I don't have the loot to fork out for it. :(.

When you look for an MP3 player, thats what you should be looking for. How well does it play MP3s? My Samsung P2 sounds so, so much better than any iPod variant I've heard, with and without stock headphones. I got it cause the reviews were good and everyone raved how good the EQ and overall SQ on it. They wern't lying. Though I'm sure it's not the best MP3 player, but it does exactly what I got it for perfectly.

Ill take my iTouch anyday. If Im on vacation, in an airport, sitting on the counch or working out, it gives me everything I want. Granted, as a Verizon wireless customer, I cant really utilize the iPhone which I gladly would, so in turn I have a basic Cell phone and an iTouch and have basically the perfect world.

I own both a Zune 80 and a 1st-generation iPod Touch. My iPod Touch is used exclusively for apps and PIM functions. Music, video, audiobooks and podcasts live on my Zune. Zune is a much better MP3/media player than any iDevice, IMHO.

Have fun with your bad internal amp. Every recent iPod requires an LOD and amp to power half decent headphones. I'd rather get a Sanza fpr sound quality and an iPod Touch as a toy, because that's all it really is.

That being said, I have an iPod Classic with an LOD and an E7. :D

If you want an mp3 player for sound quality, Apples the LAST player you want to look at. iPods have a history of mediocre sound quality. Why Apple doesnt want to be at the forefront of sound fidelity with their players is anyone's guess... If you want good audio quality at a competative price and super portable, theres no better choice imo then the SanDisk Sansa clip plus. http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2009/08/sandisk-sansa-clip-plus-review.php With up to 8 GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card slot, and amazing audio quality, it really is hard to beat from a value proposition. The 8 GB goes for a mere $70, probably even less online. As an original clip owner, I can vouch for their awesomeness...
