I got Thief today, and it doesn't work on modern PCs. I tried everything, and for a high rated game, you'll probably need a dinosaur to play it. Anyone able to play it without error?
Is it an random freeze? If so then ctrl + alt + del to open task manager and go to processes and find Thief.Exe, right click it and click "set affinity" and uncheck all cpu's except for one. Thief and Thief 2 hate cpu's with 2 or more cores.
Thief will play on a "modern" pc. It will take a few tweaks to get it to work. Go to http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75031. Just ask or search the boards at TTLG for any more problems, I'm sure they have been answered and solved already. This is where all the Thief diehards hangout. The instructions to get to to work with XP or Vista would also apply to Win7.
Its because my computer has multiprocessors and it only works with uniprocessors. But I tried the hyperthreading thing and it still wont work, it wont even install without freezing and quitting
It can be made to work with a multi-processor system. Did you see this? It was linked to from TTLG?
Although you said you can't even install. The above fix seems to be for getting to run after you install. Maybe the above works with the installation program also. But with all the many people who still play this game (mainly fan made missions nowadays) I am certain some of them are playing on a system similar to yours. All you have to do is ask at the TTLG forum, I'm sure eventually someone will help get it working for you if the above does not work.
