Ban rap and death metal music!!

Hehe just kidding, there are just too many people looking to be politically correct and too many people looking for things to blame when bad things happen. I think its just a matter of people realizing that we as a society are never going to be perfect and there are always gonna be the potential for things around us to provide negative influences. I mean things like linking video games to fueling teenagers to go around and kill/injure people is like saying people will go around and start shooting people cuz they like watching james bond movies or wateva. People have to take responsibility for themselves and use some common sense!

despite the critical attitude, very few games have actually been banned over the years, and when they are, only in a few countries. i'm gonna be honest here....i think the average gaming community is just as paranoid as the anti-game crusaders are.gamers just can't stand their toys being criticized, even when alot of these claims areindeed valid and have alarmed even the law enforcers and psychologists. i for one am keeping an open mind if these professionals are to investigate and analyze the cultural/social phenomenon behind video gaming. we cannot afford to take things lightly just becoz it's affecting our fun.

I agree with the TC that alcohol and cars totally diminish the death toll of a f-ing computer game.-No comparison...AT ALL!

Politicians haven't a clue when it comes to stuff like this. They see a problem like rising crime or violence, and want to be seen to be taking action - any action , even if it has no effect on the problem. Videogames are just the latest scapegoat to blame all evils on. More people die each year falling down stairs than die from gaming or any link with games.

Majority of people who try to "defend" the lives of their family using a gun just make things worse. So more points ARE needed.

majority of gun related deaths are commited accidentently.

you also have a better chance of having your own gun used against you in a robbery then you do to use it in protection.

additionally you dont have to kill someone to protect yourself, that is overkill.

What, you going to karate chop a home invader wielding a shotgun? lol... Also, not sure where you got your statistic on gun related deaths...but according to: http://www.gun-control-network.org/GF01.htm Homicide Suicide Other (inc Accident) 3.98 5.92 0.36 Accidental gun deaths are by far the least occurrence...

So we can put a man on the moon but there is nothing that exists that can shoot a projectile into a person without killing them?

What about sleeping darts? I mean COME ON!

Sleeping darts...lol. And you still haven't explained your (wrong) statistics. What I have found is most people who are against guns simply don't have their facts in line and don't understand anything about them.

[QUOTE="dnuggs40"][SEANMCAD

Guns are like hammers, saws, staplers etc. They are a tool with a very focused and specific purpose and its NOT to protect because there are many other tools that can exist that can protect and not kill.

So my core issue with personal gun ownership is that the owners do not face up to the fact that their tool is designed for one and only one purpose which is to kill. I don't care if someone is forkilling or not, what I care about is people who don't have the balls to admit it.

I really have nothing left to say to a bunch of cowards who cant even admit what the tool is designed for. Once they do that, then I might be willing to hear them out.

That doesn't even make sense at all...

Guns are for protection, and they have been used like that for hundreds of years. They have OTHER uses as well, but you dismiss the defense aspect all together and that couldn't be further from the truth.

A gun has multiple uses, including hunting, warfare, defense, leisure (target practice, skeet shooting, ect) your dismissal of this show that you are the one who has something they cannot admit.

A tool can have more then one use ;)

"For whatever reason they seem to be terrified to admit that the gun actually does kill"

Who doesn't admit that lol? Of course guns can kill. You seem to create these arguments in your head...

"You are telling me flat out that the only way to subdue a person is to kill them because in our wonderful technology age we have not found a way to do it by any other method."

Nobody ever said that, thats an argument you have made up for yourself. At any rate, there are other ways to subdue people...but the fact of the matter is a gun is by far the most effective way. And your rant is pretty dumb too...because people HAVE come up with other deterrents like alarm systems, having guard dogs, tazers, ect, ect. Guns are a last line of defense.

And a question...why do you feel it necessary to call gun owners "cowardly pansies" lol? I was a SGT in the 82nd Airborne and served in combat (Afghanistan)...and most of the people I know who own guns are former military as well.

And cops? They a bunch of "pansies"? They are out there everyday serving the public and dealing with the trash of society...putting their LIVES on the line every single day.

You need to reevaluate yourself and the way you look at other people...

A nail gun is designed to put nails in a wall easy and fast and companies spend money and time researching and engineering it to do that.

A nail gun can kill.

A gun is designed, tested and engineered to kill.

HUGE difference.

Just agree with that. or can you?

Of course a gun is designed to kill (well...not all guns). Again, who is disagreeing that a gun is designed to kill?

No I don't want names...but you keep using this as some argument and I have seen nobody say anything remotely like that...so why you feel it's relevant to our discussion boggles me. Anyways, I think you are probably just attempting to muddle the terms design and use (if I was to guess your argument).

I listen to death metal, play violent video games and watch violent tv and movie, drink lots of hard liqour, and have premarital sex alot. I have surived 24 years without killing anybody.

There is never a rhyme or reason to a persons barbaric and tragic behavior but the person themself. A gun, knife, xbox controller, or even pencil can't kill somebody by itself, the person wielding it makes that decision.

Feb 2004 - Murder of Stephen Pakeerah - 1 dead
Oct 2004 - Qiu Chengwei - 1 dead
Aug 2005 - Lee Seung Seop dies after playing Starcraft - 1 dead
Sep 2007 - Man dies in Guangzhou after 3-day binge - 1 dead
Dec 2007 - Beating in Russia - 1 dead
Oct 2008 - Brandon Crisp - 1 dead
Sep 2008 - Daniel Petric - 1 dead, 1 wounded

If you want to point out Virginia Tech, keep in mind that videogames were not related in any way in that incident. Seung-Hui Cho wrote violent literature and Sonic the Hedgechog isn't exactly the most violent character you could relate him to. His massacre was attributed to his writing and not videogames.

Alcohol:

Alcohol causes problems for the body but it also impairs judgment and the senses. For statistics, alcohol can be related to about 100000 deaths each year which is around 270 each day. Drunk driving kills people. It also makes people do things they normally wouldn't do such as beat up friends and families. Alcohol doesn't only cause violence related problems. If a guy and a girl get drunk and with their impaired judgment sleep with each other and have a child, the child is something they would be responsible for the rest of their life. Not to mention they might do other things like trash other people's property or make themselves seem like they need to be submitted to a mental institution.

Cars:

Bigger cars cause bigger deaths. A SUV is more likely to kill someone than a moped. Cars are convient for us in our every day life because it allows us to get around. On average, 100 people around the world die from a car crash EVERY day. This does not include injuries or permanent disabilities caused by these accidents. A lot of crimes also require cars to commit. Mostly the robbery types require a car but so do hit and runs and drive by shootings. Without cars these probably wouldn't happen. In one case in 2006, George Russell Weller killed 10 people in a single crash. That is almost as bad as the worst on the videogames list. Also, you can't exlcude it to a few bad drivers because videogames are generalized as well so the same case can be made about cars. Can't get to work? You better start learning how to ride a bicycle but the odds of a bicycle actually killing someone on impact is much lower than if a car hit the person. Even then chances are bicycles will still be more dangerous than videogames.

Guns:

Guns made it very easy to kill people. Just point at whatever you want to die and pull the trigger. Accidents also happen because it is too easy to use a gun. The United States has the highest death to population ratio in the world yet for some reason the neighboring country of Canada has hardly any despite having looser gun control laws. For those who argue that the United States allows guns to be owned because of the second amendment, the second amendment allows a state to form a militia (the National Guard) not for private citizens to have guns in their houses where people might hurt themselves. Around 70 people die each day because of guns in the United States. Guns also make it easier to steal and hurt others. Take away guns and people are less likely to do this.

Ahhh, air also shoud be banned, it has obvious addictive qualities.

I happen to know that in america there are more tiolet seat related deaths than there are deaths from video games.

I know that sounds stupid but it is actually true, in america more people are killed bya tiolet seat related injuries than video games.

Personally I think there are alot of things that should be banned...

Anything in the wrong hands are bad, so you can't ban everything. And people will just find a way around it

list the good things you can do with guns

1) Defend yourself and the lives of your family. 2) No other points needed, 1 is enough.

defend yourself from what? other people with guns? if they ban guns it is highly unlikely that evildoers will be running around with them in the first place

Felons aren't allowed to have guns...yet amazingly they seem to have them. And how about knives, baseball bats, and other lethal weapons? If someone broke into my home wielding a deadly weapon I want a gun to defend myself and my family from them.

Precisely. Just because things are banned in no way means they are done and gone from the hands of the populace.

It's amazing to me that no one pays attention to the fact that the crime rate is always higher in the places with the most draconian gun laws. But I'm just the opposite of most. I don't want to ban anything. Legalize drugs and prostitution and tax the hell out of it and leave me alone. And look at the money they would save in the failed war against both. Oh wait I'm talking about the government, never mind.

note. when people are criminals they tend to i dont know break the law... take away guns from non-criminals... and you can find yourself with lots of happy Criminals who still have their guns...
