Hi, I have a AMD 64 3400+ socket 754 and a X1950pro 512mb agp VC.

but I only have 1gb Corsair XMS ram, I found a single 1GB stick of G.Skill PC3200 DDR400 for only $70 and the reviews on it are 10/10.

Well you think I should add that extra 1GB of ram? I am trying to get my system to hold me off until the end of 2007 and I already have the card and cpu (OCed from 2.2ghz to 2.5ghz) to do it, but the game might be lacking.

I do play tons of games and the newest ones too.  Also my socket doesnt support dual channel so tossing in another stick wont upset anything.

What do you think?

It won't help out as much as you might think - if the money isn't a huge deal for you (i.e. you have a job), then go for it, you'll help keep that machine viable for a bit longer. If money is tight, it's not worth the money though, and if it does become necessary later, prices are only going down.

you should spring for it, it usually helps the loading times in games like BF2, and your going to need 2 gb eventually. trust me, (and whoever agrees with me)

Yeah I have a job I can afford it.  just wanted to know if it will help out any in games like gothic 3, oblivion, any future games still in DX9, and running vista better.

Just one quick question, my mobo will support  G.Skill ram.

but I will be mixing it with 2 x 512mb Corsair XMS memory which has slightly lower latency timings.

Will the G.Skill interfer with that ram? I do have the entire system overclocked so I would prob buy a heat sink for it too, I just want to know if one ram wont screw up the other.

3-4-4-8 is the G.Skill ram latency

 2-3-3-6 is the XMS ram.

I do not have dual channel running though so that I dont have to worry about

As long as they are both the same speed, you're good.

yea both are PC3200 DDR400

I bought a heat speader as well for the new 1gb just to keep it cooler, and this will allow me to set the timings the same as the other 2 sticks

two gigs is always worth it for the upgrade... above that not really it's like an exponentially decaying graph

Yes. Might as well get the 2GB RAM - although the performance boost probably won't be as dramatic as going from 512mb to 1GB for example.
